Got 2024-02 as an OTA in the car today and so I checked on the download manager and the full files are there too (IDrive 7).

Sorry for the ignorance on this but I only got my 2021 330e last month. How can I check the maps version I have in the car, and how can I update it, if it’s necessary? Is it a simple job (I’m a bit ‘tech-averse’). Thanks

To check which version you have press the NAV button on the left side of the HOME screen. Nudge the iDrive control knob twice to the right to highlight the options menu. Scroll down to the SETTINGS option and press the iDrive control knob. Scroll down the menu to highlight UPDATE and the current version will be displayed.

As your car is a 2021 model you should check whether you are still eligible for free updates, which you get for the first 3 years. To do that, go to the BMW ConnectedDrive website and check (if you haven’t already done so, you’ll need to register for that).

The UK map update can be done wirelessly over-the-air, but if you want the update for Europe that has to be downloaded on to a USB drive, so you’ll need to install the BMW Download Manager onto your PC/Mac and have a 64 GB USB drive (exFat format).

As to whether it’s necessary, that’s personal choice - probably not strictly necessary as roads don’t change much over time.
