then if this is truly black and white...why is the president still sitting in 1600 Pennsylvania? Why does Izzo and Dantonio still have jobs? Why does Penn State still have a football team? Oh wait...actually, there are grey shades to all situations. Have you thought that Ohio State is actually following through with asking the victim and others about what they claimed/know, etc?

Could it be that you can’t just fire the President of the USA as easily as you can fire a college football coach?

I have to say I’ll be pretty surprised if he gets fired since he can just throw his wife under the bus and say she never told him.

Either that or the ol heart problems might crop up again and he’ll have to quit to spend more time with his family again.

98% of my gut says he's finished. As noted; the pink hats will stomp up dust at every OSU game. Regents won't risk that chance.

The Roger Clemens defense strategy.

Meyer has clarified he did know about the 2015 incident when he said he didn’t and acknowledged mishandling the media day per ESPN’s latest. Also said he has always complied with reporting protocols.

So Urban said he lied to the media and wasn't prepared for the questions regarding Zach Smith. Oops...such terrible person right? We should fire everyone who lies to the media right?

I'm going to guess the committee will find out the truth about whether he followed University reporting protocol. And if he did (he seems pretty clear that he did)..then what... he's a liar and hypocrite for showing some loyalty to a close friend? Sure terrible things for a human being to be?

The world is just so black and white all the time right?

I expect Meyer / OSU still need to explain why Smith didn't get fired sooner if Meyer and OSU knew about the problem, since he was fired when the problem became widely reported. Either he deserved to be fired or he didn't. So Meyer / OSU may still look like someone covered up for Smith until it couldn't cover up any longer. On top of that, Meyer also didn't explain that he lied on media day until he was backed into a corner and needed to admit it. So I suspect more to come. Maybe OSU will find a sacrificial lamb to resolve the mess.

Not everything in the world is black and white. Meyer showed loyalty by keeping Smith on the staff past 2015, and obviously wanted to give the guy multiple chances.

If he indeed followed reporting procedures, then what's left? He's a hypocrite, and a liar? So are you and everyone you know.

I don't think it is black and white but you seem to think it was just a guy doing a solid for his buddy. Like it or not, agree with it or not, we don't live in that world any longer when it comes to domestic violence allegations. If it is a legitimate investigation, I expect more will come to light to either clear Meyer and OSU of doing anything wrong / explain the sequence of events, or someone will pay the price for doing something wrong - Meyer or a sacrificial lamb. But I don't think his admission today makes everything go away.

Sorry to tell all the haters out there, but Urban Meyer likely will be reinstated.

He's weathered the first 48 hours of this. The knee jerk reaction to fire him is over. Setting up the committee and this statement further shows the feeling is mutual, that Meyer wants to stay and the school wants him to stay.

It also shows that at this point, Urban Meyer likely has minimum culpability beyond lying to the media (being unprepared and unprofessional during media day). Meyer reported the incident to the AD. I'm guessing the committee at this point has verified it, and probably following up on what happened with the AD and thereafter. This isn't a Urban Meyer story anymore.

Sure Meyer is a hypocrite...but before you cast your stone, you need to realize this isn't a pure black and white, right and wrong issue.

Not everything in the world is black and white. Meyer showed loyalty by keeping Smith on the staff past 2015, and obviously wanted to give the guy multiple chances.

You can honestly say that someone you have known for 30 years who is seriously flawed has been completely disowned by you and your family? Really? You live on such high moral ground that you should be nominated to be the next pope?

I don't understand...and what if all legally required reporting protocol was followed? Then what? So Meyer kept the guy on his staff until now... he's morally corrupt. Oh no!

Assuming all reporting was done, let's talk about the core issue then, the abuse.

Courtney Smith sent the photos to her family and her ex's family. And not a single person in her family did anything? Where are their morals? What was Meyer supposed to do other than reporting it?

What any of us would do is irrelevant. It really doesn't change anything to repeat it over and over. None of us coach OSU or are involved in this situation. What we would do in a similar situation has no bearing whatsoever on how this situation will play out. If I agree that I would give a buddy a chance, what bearing does that have on Meyer / OSU? Answer: none. If I think Meyer is an ok guy? Still no relevance. It will play out however it plays out.

Why did he eventually fire Smith?

His satff, his decisions. It could have been the last straw. So what?

If he was justifiably fired for the abuse, why did it only happen when the story became widely known? That's the issue Meyer / OSU is facing. As noted earlier, unless there is a better story, it looks like someone covered it up until there was no choice, just like Meyer lied and didn't clarify his statements until he had no choice. If there are alternative facts, then the investigation can explain them. If not, surely you don't expect a good ending.

Doesn't rise to the level of spousal abuse but love listening to Dan Mullen at Florida try to explain his "no weapons" policy... until a star player gets caught with an AR-15 in the back seat of his car. Sounds like another gray area!

That's not really any different than my personal "don't eat food that's bad for me" policy. I never eat anything that's bad for me, except when I eat something bad for me. It just based on circumstances.

July 17: Courtney Smith filed the protective order.
July 20: protective order was reported by the media
July 23: Zach Smith fired

Who knows what Urban Meyers "last straw" was with Zach? And frankly, beyond morals, why does it matter?

Did you expect the police department to have a direct line reporting to Meyer of the protective order?

What story are you looking for? As I said the likely story is exactly what is unfolding. Meyer stuck with a friend until it became untenable for a variety of reasons. Meyer reported the issue back in 2015. Then Ohio State did something about it. Committee will figure out what came out of it, and to remind you, by reporting it, school has already satisfied Title IX requirements.

So back in 2015, was Ohio State supposed to fire someone on an allegation where no charges were pressed?

What you're looking for is at a point where it's not an urban Meyer nor Ohio State story anymore.

OK you win. Urban is a great guy and did nothing wrong. No way anyone should ever misinterpret what happened here.
