BMW BG service
I'm at the dealership getting my 15,000 mile oil change. I always change my oil and filter every 5,000 mi. The service writer told me it would be good to get the BG service done. It is only $667. They clean the injectors, dump something in the intake to clean the valves and something in the engine oil. Do any of you guys have this done or have the service writer tell you needed it? I had it done once on another car not BMW and nothing changed. I declined the service because I know that the service writer usually gets a cut of whatever they sell. I think I remember in the owners manual saying no additives are required. I have watched a lot of you tube videos that they used various additives to clean the pistons and intake valves and none of them did very much. What do you guys think. Funny story the infinity dealership told me that I should change the PCV valve. I had 40,000 miles. So I asked the Service Writer was it broken? He said no but it might break in the future. I said well the engine will probably break in the future should we change that also? He just walked away muttering to himself. Of course if you look on page 320 of the BMW online owners manual It says this about oil additives: "Oil additives can damage the engine. There is a risk of damage to property. Do not use oil
additives." So I think I will pass on the BG service. Last edited by b74heavy; 10-20-2024 at 11:13 PM.. |

Yeah don't use oil additives. Do use fuel system cleaner a couple times a year. Not sure what they could put in the intake to clean the valves, seems questionable.
