Replacement Battery
Battery won’t hold a charge anymore and I need to replace. What batteries are you people going with? Genuine BMW or other brands.

Real Question...
History: My car was showing signs of a low or dead battery. BimmerLink ("BL") was reading a 0-10% SOC. With it usually being 0 after sitting in garage all night or while im at work and 10% after a trip. I charged the battery for about 15 hours last weekend with a Ctek charger. However, it only charged to 10%. Battery Replaced: I replaced the battery and ran BL and it only showed a 20% SOC. I registered the battery through BL, but for some reason the stats of battery do not change. Meaning, the SOC is still at 20% and the indicated mileage for last battery registration is still from the original battery. Results: My car is still showing signs of a low charged battery. Comfort access not working, headlights don't turn on when unlocked or locked, radio shuts off almost immediately when when I turn car off, car has a delayed start, side view mirrors dont turn in when locking, and occasionally i get a notification that the batter is low and to charge battery or turn car on. Questions: Any ideas. I don't think this is an alternator issue. Even if the battery wasn't registered because of a bug or whatnot, BL should still read a higher state of charge no? Car is not tuned. |

There are many models from "CTEK". Your 2020 M340i is not MHEV, I guess?
I don't know how non-MHEV models react on a weak charger (5A or so). but on MHEV, users have had problems. For MHEV charging a 20A charger is more reliable. This is because if the car wakes up, it consumes all of the 5A itself. Maybe that is you problem. If you didn't charge the new battery before connecting it to the car, maybe it was sitting on the shelf for some time and had a low SoC. |

Update: I’m posting this update only because there is so much interest. I reached out to BimmerLink. They told that even though the app was telling me my battery was registered successfully, it wasn’t. They sent me a link for a beta update to the app. Ran BL battery registration with beta update and was successful. Props to BinmerLink for good customer service.
Side note: registering the new battery made a huge difference. I’ve seen some say they have replaced their batteries and not registered with no downside. I wouldn’t recommend doing that. |
