AA + MPE smell

Was idling today for about 20 minutes, came out of the car and could smell exaust fumes pretty bad.

I checked if it's under the the or engine bay, its not. Smell comes out of pipes. I usually don't idle for that long, never really notice this.

Is this normal for this set up?

its its bad then you either have a leak or a defective cat.

i recommend checking again for a leak and if not found, remove the downpipe and inspect the cat inside

I dont think I have leaks, i got under the car to smell it while it was running and under the hood, 0 smell. I ran AA for about 15k miles you think it would appear now after that many miles?

maybe it's just defective, which can happen even if it's only been 15K; you can easily tell by checking the cat. if its still in good condition then its not that

usually, just by looking at it, there will be signs of a cat going bad

That kind of damage will certainly trigger the check engine light but if you got a minor damage it might take some time before you get the CEL, but eventually its going to trigger it.

Got it. Thanks. Is there any downside driving with this other than smell.
I mean I was going to check it out later. Maybe at summer as it gets colder here?
Unless I'll get cel than it's 100% this.

Also will AA warranty this?

if the cat fails, active autowerke will warranty it.

i dont recommend waiting till summer , but note we are only speculating at this point, the cat might be just fine. you wont know unless you check it.

i recommend you take the car to a mechanic, they will know how to do all the proper tests.

Just FYI: I lived in Europe for 6 years. You don't see people idling there, even for 1 minute. People get angry if you idle. The only idlers I saw were American tourists.

Your car is a European one.

What does op choosing to idle his own car have to do with anything? A modern idling vehicle shouldn't smell like gas unless something is wrong with it., especially with a sealed and functioning AA DP. I let my car idle all the time just for the climate comfort.

Who gives a f on where the car’s made. The owner does whatever he/she wants as long as it’s not illegal, and it’s not illegal in the states.
