So I just got a certified pre owned m340. Love it have 0 complaints… other than this 1 thing.
For some reason when I am parked in comfort or eco pro the car seems to be vibrating, it’s very faint but you can tell. Especially when you change it to sport, because for some reason when you change it to sport the vibration in park / idling goes away. Does anyone have any idea why this is doing this? Should I be worried? Car has 17k miles PS: car is idling fine in terms of rpms, just a very faint vibration that goes away immediately as soon as I put it in sport mode. The only thing I could think of is the previous owner beat on it and it could be the motor mounts but why only in comfort / eco pro? TIA |

No clue why it would do this. I doubt hard driving would cause this. Under warranty means taking it to the dealer for them to figure out.

I've noticed this same exact thing. My car will consistently idle more rough in comfort than sport ind., and with sport ind. I have the comfort setting set for the suspension, so it's not regarding the suspension.
You can feel the difference, hear the difference, and see the difference with a water bottle. |

My 2021 540i is starting to have light vibration too, I bet it's the motor mount. But it hasn't bothered me enough for me to replace it. I might get rid of the car in a year anyway.

The difference here is when the engine is set to sport mode vs comfort. Nothing to do with the suspension or transmission.
You can confirm this by using sport individual, and setting everything to comfort. Then change the engine only to sport. You will notice the idle is smoother. Just a wild guess, but could this be related to the valved exhaust? |

So I have the same problem with my 2021 m340i Xdrive. It’s never caused any issues but it very frustrating because the dealership keeps saying it’s normal, but I’ve driven other cars with the same motor and they don’t do this. BMW already replaced the motor mounts under warranty and that didn’t fix the problem. In fact, now the issue happens in any drive mode (it used to only be comfort or eco mode). I only have 27,000 miles on mine so the miles aren’t high. I thought I found a solution when one of the shop foremen acknowledged the vibrations, but I ended up right back in the same situation when he said other similar vehicles felt the same. It’s so frustrating that they won’t address the issue unless it’s a recall, which I have a feeling it should be. I’ve been thinking about spark plugs now after reading some other blog posts from others with the same issue. Either way, I’m convinced it’s not normal and we shouldn’t feel the vibration. I have noticed it happens when the fan is running, so I was thinking maybe it’s not the engine so much as a fan, maybe an actuator or something. It also get’s smooth as soon as I apply the gas pedal, even in park. It’s like the higher rpm makes it smooth.

Mine still vibrates after changing both motor mounts, spark plugs and oil pump also ran tons of fuel system cleaner through it, hasn’t gotten any worse, i think it’s normal for the early non hybrid b58 cars possibly, my buddy’s 2022 supra however idles perfectly smooth, so idk

I’ve noticed that mine seems to happen when the engine fan is running. I’m thinking maybe it’s something related the engine fan.

Yes, mine is the exhaust, put a floor jack under the exhaust to hold it still and see if it still vibrates, I took some safety wire and tied up the transmission to exhaust mount, and vibration has got 90% better, probably need to replace it soon tho

One simple thing to try.
I used to have a similar problem on my Mustang GT 5 speed and it could be resolved by cleaning the inside of the throttle body. It seems that sometimes the throttle plate snapped back a little too forcefully and moved a little farther than normal travel. That small fraction of plate movement dropped idle speed down enough to make the idle less smooth. Spraying throttle body cleaner inside and working the throttle back and forth a few times always cleaned up the idle. |

Thanks a lot! I think it might work in my case as well. Do you have any pics of your solution? I’ll try to do the same.
