To save anyone searching, as of yesterday the above map update became available. My last one was 2020-4 and its jumped to 2021 -2.

Rely on OTA? Given issues with how fast they update the software I wouldn’t wait.

Just been out to check - it arrived OTA. Of course, it only does the default region (UK & Ireland) OTA, you have to use the download manager to update Europe.

Lucky you.... in the 18 months I’ve had the car it’s come over OTA once!

Yes, me too. I have never relied on the OTA, it just hasn't happened for me.

Do you have a 330e by any chance? Bet it downloads when plugged in

Ive found OTA for mine never to happen, due to it only downloading when the car is running or has sufficient battery - 320d

Where can I download it from? I think I checked all the tabs on the BMW website. I'm clearly not competent enough

There is a BMW download manager you download from the BMW Portal.
It will download the whole job lot 27.92Gb. I have only received one update since I have had the car. I had three firmware updates, two of which arrived last week!

2021-01 was never released as 2020/04 was delayed

It is buried!

https://www.bmw.co.uk/en/shop/ls/cp/connected-drive

Click on:
- My Vehicles from the account menu (top right)
- Vehicle Details
- Your BMW - Map Update

Once you have the download manager installed, you can do it from there without the website.

No 330i. Never had a firmware OTA (but my car is a Feb 2021 build so recent anyway) but this latest map appears to have arrived without prompting.

Website fell over but it looks like a manual update will do the trick ...

To be honest I'd rather have the full system up to date anyway even though I don't have any intentions of taking the car into Europe any time soon

Tell me about it. Just doing the second car! Annoyingly it is tied to the VIN so you have to download the whole thing per car.

Downloaded to laptop and copied to EXFAT formatted 32GB USB
Put USB in car socket but nothing happens
Connected drive chap advised to do system update and give it 24 hours before trying again
Just wondering if, like when doing the software update a while ago, battery charge level has an affect 🤔

If you go into Nav -> Settings -> Update, it may then offer you to update.
