Well to be honest I've not used the car in a snow shower yet. From experience in previous cars the heated rear window usually takes quite a while to warm up, especially to the temp where it melts the snow. A wiper swipe is pretty much instantaneous. But I'm happy to reserve judgement till I've tried it in the situation.

I just simply haven't thought "I wish I had a rear wiper" on my current F30 3 Series saloon or any of my previous saloons or coupes over the last 20 years, and I'm someone who is quite particular about using my rear-view mirror (I'm a pilot and incorporate the rear-view mirror into my "scan" whilst I'm driving, a bit like when flying). If you miss it then who am I to argue? I'm just saying I haven't given it the slightest thought.

Remove the rear wiper from my X5 on the other hand, and I would totally miss it.

Why would you miss it on one car and not the other?

Okay dude drop it. It's not an option that's offered, so who cares. It looks like shit and has little functionality for most of us (obviously not you...we get it!!). It's like an argument with my kids...nobody is ever going to be satisfied.

I always thought this was due to the screen angle and airflow, see this for more information:

'tis true that at speed, the angle of a saloon rear windscreen doesn't 'collect' rain like an estate / SUV does, but when not at speed, it still gets moist.

I think that's why god invented those little scrapey things that live in glove boxes, next to the packet wet wipes that haven't been wet for over 3 years.

I'm not sure whether you're deliberately trolling now, but I would think that was fairly obvious? The X5 has a rear glass that is near vertical and without a protruding boot, therefore spray very quickly covers the rear glass. It's why it comes with a rear wiper as standard. Saloon cars, however, do not have that issue. It's why BMW and pretty much every other car manufacturer fit rear wipers to their estate cars but not to their saloon cars.

I'm surprised I'm having to explain this to you, someone who is interested in cars enough that they have over 100 posts on a car forum.

Yesterday I replaced the NFC tray in the center console with the OEM wireless charger unit. I wanted wireless charging when I bought the car but unfortunately this one didn't have that option. I'm glad I saved money by retrofitting it later.

The only thing is I have yet to code the "phone is still in the charger" audio warning that you can enable. I'm still on the fence whether it's worth the hassle of getting an OBDC adapter, figuring out the right codes, etc. Regardless, I'm happy I can simply lay my phone down for it to charge vs. plugging it in.

I live in a state where we get several feet of snow every winter... and never once have I needed a rear wiper.

If you want a rear wiper get an SUV and not a sports sedan lol

1) I found that the car has deadzones inside the cabin where it wont detect the key fob. The glovebox is an example. You can leave the key inside and lock the car and use your phone to lock/unlock if you dont want to carry they key on you for some reason but this can also be a problem if you get locked out with your phone inside.

2) When you have Apple CarPlay running and then go to the homepage for some reason, you can quickly go back to CarPlay's music screen using the Media shortcut button on the center console or CarPlay's navigation app (google maps or waze) using the Nav button.

Thank you on #2. I also noticed when using Waze with Apple CarPlay, if you start the iDrive Navigation, Waze is stopped. If you start Waze again, the iDrive Nav will stop.
This only happens in CarPlay.

That's interesting. That's closer to the behavior I get on my 2018 m240i vert. On our 2020 m340i, if I try to start the iDrive navigation while waze is running, I get a warning that navigation is already running in CarPlay. I'd love to be able to run both, because the 2020 iDrive nav seems better than Waze, but I want the Waze hazard notifications.

Are you able to run both in CarPlay? I was wondering if this was due to an update....? My car was only delivered 3 weeks ago.
I guess I try it again and see if I get a warning.

Update: I miss read your post, so no, you can not run both in CarPlay. You can run both with just iDrive and not using CarPlay.

I learned today that if you have the 'lock as you walk away' function activated on Comfort Access when you walk away from the car it locks the wife in and she can't even open a window.

Just thought this might be useful to someone......

I don't think it works in NA cars. Probably RoW has it.
