Yes, M3 and M340xi, plus Audi RS5 Sportback and S4.

I had an Audi S6 before the Model 3.

All very nice cars.

Yup, tuned G80 M3. Have you seen flash tuned heavy X3M running 2.9 sec 0-60 and 10.7 1/4 mile? Thats running next to Model S P100D. Just wait and see what G80 M3 can do

And believe me when I tell you my F30 runs mid 11s with that pipe

Stock X3MC runs 3.5-3.6 sec 0-60 (without 1 ft rollout). Stage 1 BM3 pump gas X3 runs 3.1-3.2. Stage 1 E30 runs 2.9. I expect the stock M3C to run 3.1-3.2 due to weight advantage. Stage 1 flash should bring the M3 into the M5 category (2.7-2.8). E30... I can’t even imagine! Can’t wait!

I tried Tesla M3 performance and BMW M340 twice for pretty long test drives.

There were a couple of deal breakers for me with Tesla.

First of all the tech, and the 0-60 (more so the 0-40) were insane. It almost never got old. Just such an amazing feeling, The tech on the car is truly on a class of its own, and more in line with what I always thought was attainable in cars. I am so excited to see where the tech can go in the coming years.

-As great as the drive was, Tesla still felt a little heavy in the corners. It is hard to explain but I felt I was trying to do more cornering with this car.
-Not having an instrument cluster was a big problem for me. I can have 3 screens if possible like the new Taycan, and I wouldn't mind. The fact that it also didn't have a HUD while not having an instrument cluster made it even worse. I just don't like the 1 screen idea in the middle until cars are fully automated.
-Hearing a couple of horror stories from friends about how some people they know had issues getting spare parts after accidents really was a turn-off. Sometimes, it took people 6 months. I am not 100% sure about this but watched a few YouTube videos also confirming it. I am reading some stuff that Tesla is improving on this aspect like they do with everything.
-Interior quality was very lackluster. I know you can wrap the piano black but even then the wheel, the interior material just felt cheap.

The highs of the Tesla were higher, the lows were lower if that makes any sense.

BMW, although slower, maybe with the illusion of louder noises felt just as fast and aggressive. It has an instrument cluster and a HUD. It is also not perfect but I guess no car is. It just checked more boxes for me. In the future, I really want to go at least plug-in hybrid for my next car if not fully electric. I wish to do that latest by 2024.

FWIW, the central screen is odd for a few days, then becomes second nature. At this point when I drive my wife's car (Audi Q5), I'm always frustrated by having to almost squint to see the tiny speedo numbers buried way down in the instrument binnacle.

The location of the (large) digital speedometer on the Model 3 makes a HUD essentially redundant in practice.

Like most other things you get used to it whether it is wireless headphones or no instrument cluster. However, I could have used the HUD. Not even the instrument cluster.

Having a HUD is such a convenience. Once you get used to it, you don’t want to go back. It is kind of like going with an electric car and not ever imagining going back to petrol one.

It is very interesting because I was HUD/instrument cluster and slightly better build material on the inside away from going with a Tesla Model 3P. I would have spent more for these if they were options as well. Easily would have spent another $5,000 if it had these and choose it over M340 XDrive

My last car had a HUD. I honestly found it distracting and don't miss it at all. (shrug)

Now, if adaptive dampers (not necessarily an air suspension, but magnetic ride or something similar) had been available, I likely would have purchased that.

In any case, enjoy your car!

F80 is also a beast on the track, hope you get a chance to properly test it one day.

That said, Tesla says their Model 3 Performance will do 3.5s to 60 which may put the G80 M3 to shame. That will definitely take a lot more customers away from Audi, Merc and BMW.
Feel bad about saying this yet?

Why? He wasn't wrong. M Cars? Yes. Cooking A4's, 330's, and C300's? The Model 3 grabbed those buyers by the handful.

Also, very random 3 year old post bump...
