Here's the installation instructions...they are the same for the M340i and M440i, so yes, it requires cutting the stock system at the location shown. It also states it is approximately a 1 hr job to install the exhaust which should be a useful notation when dealing with dealers who want to charge huge $ for this simple procedure.

Yeah it should be no more than a $250-300 job.
