Maps 2023-3 available

Guess this will be my last one before I have to renew.

Is it really worth renewing, as how much actually changes with these updates? From the last time I faced this issue, probably back in 2011/12 with my E61, it really didn't impact on me. And now we also have Waze/Maps etc.

Just updated via USB and seemed to work okay but got this message at the end:

New initialisation required. More info on the internet at ConnectedDrive.

Has anyone seen this before? I think it's just because my 3 year period runs out on 29/6 so it's prompting me to renew?

Given I've just updated, it doesn't seem to make sense and better off to wait until 2023-4 is released and renew then?

I checked the Map update page in iDrive last night and the additional comment isn't there so I assume it is down to the upcoming renewal.

I assume there's no change in price if I don't renew immediately and do it after 3 or 4 months? Has anyone delayed the renewal before?

I delayed it between 2023-1 and 2023-2.

No change to price and it was still available to renew.

My advice, wait until 2023-4 is available then renew.

How are you getting notifications about the map update. I checked mine today and its on 2023-2 and no notification of an update. Thanks

We’ve all done the map update via the BMW map download manager on our computers.

The updates appear sooner and it updates the full europe map as oppose to just the uk map that the over air update does.

I've checked my map settings and have the following. Is this the most recent map for all of EU? Just about to drive in Europe later this week.

That’s two years out of date. You don’t get Europe OTA, so you’ll need to update with a USB stick.

Thanks for the comment. I assume Europe is out of date but not UK, from the 2023-3?

Sorry, can you remind me where I get the download on USB stick from? I recall last time I had issues around size of stick, formatting and then it not doing anything when plugged in the USB port...

To get the Europe update (assuming you still have an active subscription) you need to first get the download manager software from the Connected Drive website.

You need an active subscription for OTA or downloads so after 3 years you will need to renew connect drive subscription.

For my F30 I used to buy map upgrades from a third party company (Bimmer America), and each one was about $120 for a one year subscription (usually 2-3 new map versions each year). I’d have to check to see if the company is still providing updates.

Thats a bit of a ripoff. I know with VW I could just download the updated stuff whenever it came out for free.

I couldn't with my last VW. I had a Touareg in 2011 and they wanted £300+ for the updated Nav DVD.
