Newbie First Post - Radio shut down with doors opening
Newbie here so be gentle with me.
Had my car since Oct 2020 so still learning stuff - my wife says I'm sad but read the manual and spent hours trying different settings on stuff (what else is there to do in lockdown?). Well Ive read some of the posts about system (screen displays radio etc) shut down when doors are opened etc. I noticed what i first thought was odd behaviour and random shut down/not shut down. I have realised that if I'm in the car on my own and I switch off and get out the screens shut down. Wife in the car they carry on running - but - if she then opens her door the system shuts down. I can only assume that the system detects an seats being used/empty and produces (once you spot it) perfectly logical behaviour...leave system on for radio etc if at least one seat is occupied - clever. Anybody else have this feature? |

Standard feature I guess that weight on seat sensors have to be present in all moders cars anyway, just to activate seatbelt reminder chime. Then its just a simple (but clever) logic coded in the system.

today i discovered that cant turn direction to the end when handbrake is holding the car in a hill. Only got to the end when handbrake releases and car start moving.
Also, when using cruise control, if i interrupt it pushing throttle, and then leaving pedals without press, in a few seconds cruise control takes control automatically (i thought that cruise control, upon interrupted, could only manually resumed). Surprised (frightened) me the other day in the highway |

I love it a simple well....just be aware that if you get a 'battery low' message (I get this a lot at the moment due to lack of use in lockdown) the comfort access/closing disengages along with some other stuff. Quite disconcerting when you walk back to your car to find it unlocked

In my car, when I unlock the car beforehand to wash it (I unlock it to keep the mirrors open) and then keep they key out of range, I've noticed that the doors lock after a while (there's no indication that it locks though, like flashing indicators or the beep or folding mirror). The mirrors still stay open. I usually spend a few hours washing it (2-3hrs). I then have to use the key to unlock it again.

Shift lights in manual mode
I assume someone has already mentioned this in the 23 pages of this thread, but I just noticed that, in manual mode, the car has shift lights in the dash (not HUD). Very cool, wish they were bigger though.

It used to switch automatically based on drive mode but seems there is an idrive bug stopping this from happening. |

I don't have HUD, that's why I was so surprised to see it on the dash, and wished for it to be bigger. It's very cool though.

I'll try to take a pic, but it's on the right hand side of the gauge cluster, use the control to display the current gear, put it in manual mode (display will now say M1). Accelerate all the way to redline and the white line under the wording M1 will change to yellow then red as you approach redline (lol, a pic or video would be a lot better than this description).

Is this for cars without HUD? Reason I ask is because, in my car, it shows up on the HUD but not where you said (I've seen videos where the shift light is under the M1 indicator on the dash). In my car, it stays white. Even with the HUD off, it stays white (no shift light on the dash.)

Ahhh. Probably that's why then. In mine, it's in the HUD.

Drove for the first time in Polarised sunglasses. Found head up display was almost invisible & other illuminated displays like temperature was quite dim!🙁
