LCI Shifter Retrofit?
Hello
Has anyone thought to retrofit the LCI "stickless" button shifter? I kinda like that the stick isnt in the way. Looks cleaner, easier to get drinks, easier to press traction button etc. I came from mercedes and we had shifter on steering wheel which I thought was a good way to free up space in console area. not sure if pinout is the same or if it needs coding. etc. |

Someone in the M340i facebook group did the opposite and installed the shifter in place of the "tab thing" (for lack of a better term). He mentioned it was plug and play. I imagine you'd be able to install it without much trouble in that case, but I don't know anyone whose done it.

yea i saw that thread. if that is the case I am sure it is plug and play for our car. I like also that the LCI doesnt have an unlock button. its super annoying to have to hold the unlock button to change from drive to reverse and back. y turns are super annoying.

LCI Gear Selector retrofit
Picked-up on ebay and just finished installing an LCI Gear Selector Centre Console panel from a pre-production G20LCI.
HW is Plug-n-play but not SW/FW. Perhaps a production version of the LCI Gear Selector will be SW/FW compatible but I suspect not, based on my experience. I need to test further but the LCI Gear Selector appears to be working properly. The only thing I noticed is the "S" (Sport Mode) LED does not light-up on the Gear Selector panel. I can live with this issue for now since the proper gear is displayed in the instrument cluster. Larry

I had to install the production FW version compatible with my LCI Gear Selector. I could not inject the CAFD file without first updating the FW. If the LCI Gear Selector you purchased is new or from a production vehicle, then your unit may already have the proper FW installed. What is the manufacturing date of the LCI Gear Selector you purchased? Does the unit have the typical BMW product label i.e. with a QR Code? I also had to update the transmission controller (EGS7) FW to 1122 (BTLD, CAFD, SWFK and SWFL). Luckily, the psdzdata database includes 1122 FW compatible with the EGS7 HW version installed in my vehicle. FYI, I could not select S mode using the LCI Gear Selector without first updating the EGS7 FW to 1122. Larry

Sorry I missed your post. The part number is likely a pre-production number but I have included a pic of the label. A search of this part number revealed nothing material.

I prefer the traditional shifter so maybe once I get the car I will change it. |

Please note unlike the F3x, the buttons and the shifter are a single unit integrated into the housing and cannot be separated. I reused my factory idrive controller and filler plate. Larry

I purchased this one on e-bay; Not too worried about the Auto start/stop button since I've already coded it. Last edited by GOTOFMS; 11-04-2022 at 07:51 AM.. |

I believe we purchased our LCI Gear Selectors from the same vendor. I hope you receive a production version... Feel free to PM if I can be of any assistance. Larry

i bought the shifter from same ebay seller. my car is fully loaded so I had to buy unit with all options and buttons. The usa shifter i do not think has auto start stop button or adaptive on LCI so this euro shifter was needed for my fully loaded usa car. I hope it works!

Just an update, I finally had a chance to install the LCI shifter into my pre LCI 2020 M340. I can confirm it works! I love it. No longer have the useless shifter knob in the way to block my hand from easily selecting the surround view, traction buttons or parking. Also no need to press unlock button when doing y turns from reverse to drive etc. As mentioned above the trans software needs to be updated as I can not shift into "S" mode. I will need to figure out how to do that. larrylam646 any information on how you upgraded trans software so the s mode works?
My m340 is fully loaded so I had to purchase a shifter from Europe that had all the buttons and I still care about the engine start stop button

With this new toggle how do you change from a manual shifting back to automatic?
In my pre-lci m340 I just push the shifter left or right to put it back into auto, seems easier just to hit the shifter... But maybe I am wrong.... |
