I live in Buffalo, NY and my biggest BMW complaint for 10 years has been the lack of a remote start option. I am going to be in the market for a new car in a few months but having a remote starter that doesn't activate all of the hot options in the car is counter productive to having a remote starter. May affect my decision.

1) heated steering wheel no longer has an automatic option. Was nice to set that to engage automatically at a desired temp like the seats.

2) no longer has the ability to adjust bottom vs. back temperatures on the seats. I miss that feature. It was nice to be able to turn down the butt temp and keep the back toasty, or whatever.
The F30 3 series never had these options.

Even if they were turned on when the car was last turned off.

This is really lame. Kind of negates remotely warming your car up in the winter if the seats are still ice cold when you get in. I'm sure it's some BS safety regulation, but hope it's something that can be changed via coding at some point.
I've only had the chance to use remote control once since the temp dropped below 50. I remembered I was getting ready to get off work, and was curious to try "pre-warming up" my car. When I got in my car, I felt my seat was warmed, and I thought to myself, Oh cool my car can do that! Lol

I'm pretty sure it can't...unless you have a different software build than the rest of us. Next time you use remote start, look at the seat warming indicator before you put your foot on the brake and press the start button. It's likely going to be off, and then turn itself on once you press start (assuming it's below 50 outside, or whatever your threshold temp is set to in iDrive).

On my US-delivered 330i running version 7.2019.40, heated seats are definitely not part of the remote start routine. If yours is truly working before you get in the car and exit remote start, what version of software are you running?

No, tried it. Does nothing.

This really sucks, kills the purpose of having remote start when your seat and steering wheel is ice cold. I just wish the climate rules would have applied to remote start as well.

Asked the service adviser who asked the bmw genius about it and they said it's NOT designed to come on.

Why can't they at least have it turned on to the lowest setting?

When you start your car with Remote Start how long does it stay on for?

My car seems to shut off after a period of time like 5 minutes or something.

Is there a time setting?

I think it’s supposed to be 15 minutes.

That's what I expect when I come to a luxury car forum though. I'd be more surprised if someone posted that their 3 series was rammed by an angry rhinoceros, or something like that.

Also, if one is paying 1st world prices, they're entitled to complain about 1st world "problems".

I have climate rules set to warm up the seats but it waits until I actually get in the car and push the start button to kick in.

But can't they make it so it turns on the seat and steering wheel when the car is remotely started? If they think it's going to get too hot, then why not default it to the lowest setting?

If this is true, then it's specific to the 330e. This does not happen in the 330i or M340i.

It's true. From the app you can select "Climatize now" or programme it for departure and it warms up the cabin, the driver's seat, and the steering wheel. But this is not the same as remote start, the car doesn't start the engine, it just uses the batteries for pre-conditioning the cabin without starting the car. It works really well

That's weird. In my car, remote start and climatizing now from the app works the same way.

Yeah he's saying it works differently in his 330e. Seems to be a different feature than available in 330i and M340i. As far as I know, we don't have an option to climatize without starting engine.

Yes. Even when we hit Climatize now, it takes us to a page where it says the engine will be started and it'll run for 15 minutes before shutting down.

Yes, exactly, I was referring specifically to the 330e. One correction though, the passenger seat is also warmed, not only the driver's.

That’s wonderful then. Wonder why BMW couldn’t do that for the 330i/M340i too.
