App or software to clear error codes and CELs

Hey guys

I was wondering if there are any apps or softwares that work with an OBD adapter or Enet cable that could be used to clear error codes, CELs, check control messages etc.

Any help will be appreciated.

@VipinLJ ,

Two ideas for your consideration:
• You can get an OBDII scanner. I have OBDLink MX+ for coding, along with Bimmercode-- it's OK. The scanner comes with an App that can read & clear codes.
• You can get a copy of ISTA/D. Probably best is to go to the Bimmerfest forums-- but am not sure if that works on G20s?

Hope that helps

Thank you very much sir.

I have the OBD2 scanner as well as the enet cable. I just didn’t know if the supplied software would work since I remember reading it only supported F30 and didn’t mention G20 (my memory could be wrong). I have bimmercode (full version) but mine doesn’t read errors (unless I’m missing something).
And I will check it out on bimmerfest. I did reply to a thread in the f30 section at the fest but no one responded yet. I’ll dig deeper.

Thank you once again!

@VipinLJ ,

Glad to assist.

My OBDII scanner has a nice App that you can download for it; I used to scan codes on my son's Mini & I used it on my G20

I’ll get that and see how it goes. Someone told me bimmercode can read errors but for the life in me, I can’t figure out how to get mine to even view errors.

VipinLJ ,

Bimmercode does not read error code; it is an App that does coding, somewhat like E-Sys, but at a much reduced level.

The OBDII Scanner may have an App to read & clear error codes. Again, mine is an OBDLink MX+ and I downloaded an App from Google Play store; installing that on my phone & plugging scanner in allows me to read & clear error codes on my car

Hope that helps

So I scanned my car using my OBD adapter and a couple of apps I downloaded from google play. Unfortunately, it doesn’t show any errors except for a front electronics (FEM_BODY) 804081 (No description found) that I can’t seem to clear.
On the iDrive, it shows a Check control message saying “Engine start only when idling” and the “i” in the instrument cluster pops up saying “start engine only with no gear engaged.” The message on the instrument cluster only pops up for a few seconds when I unlock the car and it goes away after I start the car (the “i” still remains though). The message on the iDrive stays till I hit “close message” and pops up the next time I turn the ignition on. When I go to vehicle settings, there’s an exclamation mark in a triangle pointing at the hood of the car with this check control message.
I was wondering if there was ANY software that could be used to clear up that message for good. I don’t want to take it in to the service centre since they’re an hour away and I don’t have to go towards that side for any other reason and the car drives and works perfectly except for this annoying message on the iDrive every time I turn the ignition on (only when I turn the car completely off and back on does it pop up).
Or, if someone could help me (remotely or not) get rid of the message, I’d be extremely glad and even willing to pay for their time and effort.

Any ideas or help will be appreciated.

Edit - Long pressing the BC button on the indicator stalk does nothing. It doesn’t even bring up the message on the live cockpit. Just toggles through the options on the tachometer side like it is supposed to do.

VipinLJ ,

Sorry, BUT now I am out of my knowledge area. My only thought is to do a Google search with BMW ERROR CODE and your number and see what comes up

Hope that helps!

My situation is weird. Scanned my car again with two different apps yesterday. Absolutely no error codes. Looks like the front electronics error cleared up by itself. Idk what that was since everything worked perfectly.
Only annoyance is this message on the live cockpit and iDrive screen that pops up everytime I turn on my car after I’ve turned it off completely. Since it doesn’t affect the drivability or anything, I thought I’d wait till the first service to take the car in.
Long pressing on the message brings on a greyed out option to delete the message. Idk why that is.
And thank you for replying to my doubts. I’m grateful to you.

Edit - A google search like you suggested turns up nothing unfortunately. But I did come across a decent pdf with almost all obd2 error codes described.

I used a couple of apps and none of them show any error whatsoever. Just the “i” on the live cockpit and the message warning me to start the car only when it isn’t in gear. It isn’t an error message per se. A warning check control message. No other issues at all, which is why I’m waiting till my first service to get it addressed.
