Hi, All. Last time I was at my indy shop, they wanted to replace my spark plugs at a cost of $500. Car has 43K on it. I thought most cars these days have 60-100K plugs. Shop told me this car has 30K plugs. Engine runs like a clock and mpg is good, so I didn’t see the reason to change them yet.
They also wanted to sell me a $200 fuel system clean which I turned down. I usually dump a bottle of fuel system cleaner once a year. Any input? |

You most likely don't need spark plugs.
If you want to change them order some from FCP, or purchase local, and do it yourself. Not hard if you've ever worked on cars before. Pour a can of fuel injector cleaner in if you want, they're inexpensive and can't hurt anything though I doubt you'll notice the difference. Sounds like that's what you shop had in mind anyway. |

Dealer told me same thing at 35k miles. Went to my local shop and they said no way. Said I should be good to at least 60k but probably closer to 80k. I also have an M340i.

The techron fuel system cleaner should be good enough, I use a bottle every 6k miles(no science behind that interval). Also use top-tier fuel(the cheapest around here is Costco).

IF (a big IF) you need the service done, just grab this kit at Turner and do it yourself. $230 for plugs -and- the coil packs.
