Fully charged - electric range indication

Has anyone managed to get their fully charged new 330e to show more than 26 miles of range when fully charged? Mine was at 26 miles when I collected it from the dealer, but when I charged it on Sunday, it only went to 24 even with pre-conditioning so it was super warm......

I'm curious how the stated WLTP range (city, mild weather) could be 35 miles if the very best charge at outset when warm shows as 26, though typically around 24 miles.........

Anyone else have better fully charged range indications?

Same here, 26 miles at collection, 24 the next day and now never shows more than 21 miles.

I suppose it is only a guessimate by the car based on previous journeys but I had expected it to be higher and it can only get worse as head towards winter.

Mine initially had been 24/25 max but after .55 upgrade it is now 27/28. I reckon 30 is realistic on a normal journey. If you're doing 70 on the motorway in Electric mode then probably not...

I did once get 47 electric miles on a 170 mile journey. On my 46 mile office drive (each way) I get about 32-34 electric miles which I'm pretty happy with (averaging about 190-200MPG)

Has anybody tested the indicated range against what was actually achieved in pure electric mode?

Assuming even if it says 24/25 it'll reach 30-35 depending on driving conditions etc

Someone is work has had one a week or two and they are getting real world figures of around 21.

Would be good to understand the driving profiles of those who get good and bad figures. EV has similar factors to deal with as ICE, where we know consumption has a very wide range, halving/doubling the consumption according to use.

I suppose a lot will also depend on how much regeneration is possible, and how good a user is at adapting their driving style, to harvest as much energy as possible, and how it helps the range.

BTW, winter use is going to be very interesting, especially up here in Scotland.

Simple maths, you gained about 15 electric miles from regeneration (and any other efficiencies) on a 170 miles trip. About right? Not very much in real terms, particularly for lower mileage commutes.

This is no different to the F30 version I have just now. When it was released they said 20ish miles of range, but that quickly just always became 13-14 miles on display.

Sound like the G20 is the same but 80% increased, which is about the difference in the battery capacities.

However I'm averaging 50 mph just now on a 140 mile commute with a fully charged battery each way, so expect the G20 will take this to 60+mpg. It should also mean all of our regular local stuff will be entirely electric too. So whilst it doesn't sound that much more, I think it will make a really noticeable difference.

I've had my 330 for two weeks now, charged every night and seeing the same sort of values, best it's read is 26miles on full charge and i've only seen that once. My best electric range so far is 29 miles but today (cold and wet here) it barely scraped 20. Luckily I'm only 8 miles from work so can still do there and back on a single charge.

Is anyone seeing much difference between Electric, Hybrid and Hybrid Pro settings?

To be fair I also wonder, Hybrid, Electric or adaptive is the best mode?
Also, can I say that sport and battery control would be the ones with highest fuel consumption?

Mine arrived last Thursday also with a full charge showing 22 miles to the battery, after the first charge it went up to 24 range and the past 2 charges it never exceeded 24.

Still unsure on which Hybrid setting to run this on.

Standard or Eco Plus? I think the later is designed to be used while the sat nav is directing you to a location but can’t help think that the user manual doesn’t really help to which one will return the best range.

BMW have said that the cold weather will take a chunk out of the battery range but as I was initially going Tudor the 2018 model with its 20 mile (12- 14 real figures) range I opted to wait until the supposedly doubled 2019 version.

I would of thought the battery range indicator would at least show the 40 mile range (or higher) and not the 24 mile we are mostly seeing.

I didn’t really want to be constantly watching the battery level but with this being lower than I expected I can’t help driving with one eye on what the battery is doing.

My first real work trip was around 60 miles and the car between petrol and battery returned a 67 mpg reading so it’s already better than my old Lexus IS300h hybrid which returned around 47 mpg.

I’ll keep an eye on my range and this forum to see if it increases.

Take care guys and happy driving.

How come the range seems to be showing between 24 and 26 miles for everyone? Did European drivers who got the 330e not report around 30/32 miles of electric range? What’s changed for the uk cars or does the colder weather make that much of a difference?

On my first trip out, It was showing 24 miles to my full battery.

In standard Hybrid mode when I checked my overall consumption for that day it indicated I’d done 33 miles of electric travel with an overall mpg of 75.4.

I don’t know which I prefer, for it to show less but do more or show more and do less....... I suppose the first.

I agree, I guess the battery control setting puts quite a load on the alternator (?) and therefore the engine to charge the batteries and sport adds a lump of lead to my right foot.

What I don’t get is why when you lift you foot off the accelerator in hybrid mode, there’s regeneration but not in hybrid pro.

After a week of driving, all modes will Regen the battery.

In hybrid mode you feel the Regen breaking and the needle drops in to the “Charge” section on the dash. In Eco Pro, you don’t get the same breaking feeling when lifting off and the needle doesn’t drop in to the “Charge” area until you press the break.

On one trip I managed to Regen the battery by 5 miles but it didn’t suit my normal driving style so the 5 gained soon went again.

yes, as someone said, the fully charged electric range more or less depends on how you drove before the charging.

As example:
On Sunday drove in sports mode with xtra boost, to for some fun. And parked. set to charging.
It was fully charged in the morning and indicator showed 14 miles.
Then I drove almost 30 miles (29.xx) on motorway (~65 mph) and B road, in Hybrid Eco Pro with Satnav and Assisted driving on.

So my actual mileage was double to what it was indicated.

Makes sense, what I would expect to see. Like fuelling an ICE, the expected range displayed depends on the current mpg average, the rolling calculation prior to filling up.

Out of interest, did the next charge confirm this, reflect a better average again?

3 degrees here today and a full battery on hybrid standard only got me 24 miles range before I got back home with 1 mile left on the battery.

Not driving like a loon but also not driving like it’s a hearse either.

It’s bound to get colder and the range will get shorter, probably sub 20’s which will be as welcome as a fart in a lift for me.

Advertised to do between 35 - 40 miles....... yeah, if you get out and push.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the car but I’ve now got eyes like Marty Feldman, one eye on the road, the other an the battery gauge.

Wonder what range you guys will get when we go below freezing, or really heavy weather days?

As to expected and official range figures, WLTP is still using a low average speed of 46.5km/h (29mph), with acceleration rates we likely laugh at. I understand the fastest acceleration is 0 - 30mph in 15 seconds.

Let's no even think deeply about the influence of temperature and the demands of energy hungry consumers in cold winter weather.

Picked up my 330e M Sport on Friday with a full battery indicating 21 miles range. Temp has been a damp 5°c. Hooked up to the Pod Point and programmed pre conditioning for an 8:40am start Saturday morning. Still 21 miles range on full battery. I know it’s cold but 57% of BMW stated range?

In my experience if you use full electric mode the range indicated is pretty accurate.

But if you use Hybrid Eco Pro over longer journeys you can achieve up to 38 miles (my personal best)
