2021 m340i no pops/burbles
So I got this 2021 m340i with 600 miles already. The car doesn’t sound like 2019/2020s. It’s got this mild hybrid system. The car has virtually no pops or burbles. I can get 1 or 2 pops on sport plus second gear revving to 3k and letting go but they’re not even loud.
Does anyone know how i can get the car to pop like the older models without catless downpipes and a tune? I talked to the dealership and they told me 21s don’t have pops and there’s nothing they can do for me. It doesn’t even have a resonator to delete. |

CliffNotes (I'm dating myself):
So at the end of the day and getting back to your question....can you do any modification that that will not be detected (either proactively or by reverse engineering)? No you can't. Should you care? Up to you Hope this helps ps- I just had a fellow forum member (who drives a 2021) pay me a visit yesterday to check out my car (2020)- he was curious about the DP, Flash and Lowering Springs. I was happy to help him out, it was nice to meet a new SoCal BMW enthusiast and I think he left impressed by the sound and performance - we had a great drive up and down PCH. Here what I was told by a BMW employee who has his car tuned. "Just do it. If anything goes wrong and bmw doesn't wants to void the warranty, they legally have to prove that what you did caused the issue." So if you blow the engine up somehow, bmw can't say you tuned it so that's why, they have to be able to show the tune is what caused the engine to blow up. I've read this in other places while doing research and apparently this is a law in the US, manufactures can't deny warranty until they prove your mods are what caused the issue.

Just a thought because 2021 models are now not making any pops and engines has a mini hybrid motor.
Does this mean people that leased or purchased 2020 model m340i patiently have Equity because it makes the 2020 model more desirable? Just 🤔... |

Is this a ploy to get us to buy the MPE?

It's a software thing, not hardware.

I just went to dealership and tested 2021 m340 it definitely does not sound like the 2020 but it still has a decent pop and burble in a sport plus mode on the stand still revs. I am coming from Infiniti Q50 Red Sport to me i am happy with the 21 m340 exhaust sounds its deep sound pop and burble.

Guys you must start to complain to dealership and they must complain to BMW.
Usually every next model year car should be better, but model 2021 is worse than 2020 since they put that 70kg extra weight on with shit-hybrid and cut pops/burbles. Mine was build in October 2019 still old software (2019/07) on and shot like crazy

While I'd like to see this corrected for the '21 owners - I am really curious why the change was made in the first place. And what we are really fighting against
Was it sound regulations? Was it determined to be detrimental to the cats? Was it emissions related? Was it simply decided regulations or not the car was simply too loud? Anyone have any insight? I know when the 2021 DME is cracked the aftermarket will provide a remedy to the situation but I also know that is not an answer for everyone. Thanks all |

Went to test drive some M340s with a friend that was impressed after seeing mine. My 2020 model year built in July sounds a lot different. Downshifting it can sound like a gunshot in my car with a good bit of burbling. Could not replicate on the 2021.
Sales guy stated that perhaps the average m340i buyer is turned off by the aggressiveness of the pops/burbles or that they wanted to create more separation from full M3. Sure it was speculation on his part, but it sucks that they would change it. |

They should at least include the option on whether or not you want the aggressive pop/crackle or not. Both Jaguar and Mercedes have separate exhaust buttons for this, which would have solved everything for BMW had they went this route.
