Because M suv don't make sense what so ever. You take a car platform raise it so it's better off road then you lower it for better handling and add a big engine on top? So much easier and logic to create a touring version with much lower COG than an suv.

Compared to a sedan, it just looks better and more complete to some of us, while carrying more stuff, making it easier to put those things in and perhaps most importantly, it has a rear wiper.

Compared to an SUV, it's lower, it's lighter, it handles better and it's easier to get in and out of.

It won't come to the US, because they won't sell 100,000,000 of them here, so it's not justified. But they should sell it here in small numbers anyways. 100-300 of these would do very well, and maybe even sell out. They'd have my money, at least.

Shame.

It always makes me cry a little when Caymans or 911's skipped the rear wiper option. Not sure why Mitsubishi and Skoda are the only ones who figured out that sedans could run them too. Honestly, part of my interest in an R34 has to do with the rear wiper.

BMW is going to tease us Americans forever with this! As cool as it is, I highly doubt it ever makes it here!

Really? Because the wagons have done soooooooo well here in the past right?

They've done so well BMW doesn't even bring the 5 variant here anymore; and the G platform 3 has been canned from the US. Sorry bub, proof is in the sales

Love me a powerful and capable wagon.

Again, it's got more to do with BMW USA offering the slowest, dumbest models, not what we would purchase as enthusiasts. The E61 was awd only, and now the F31 was forced that way too with only the four cylinder.

It's not just a short SUV, it doesn't need awd for many of us. It wouldn't hurt to give it some stones and a real transmission too.

Audi is rumored to be bringing either or both the RS4 and RS6 here. Mercedes still sells the E63 Touring. Porsche has the Panamera wagon and likely soon, a Taycan wagon.

Not everyone wants an SUV.

People are just sheep. Everybody wants a wagon because according to the bloggers and mags it's "cool". They are just as lame as an SUV...

Quick informal poll:

Raise your hand if you currently have a wagon somewhere in the garage instead of a mid-sized SUV?

everyone complains we dont have an X3M yet and now we do but thats not good enough since they just teased a wagon over in EU.

you M owners are never happy. the reason wagons dont sell is because manufacturers price them higher than the equivalent SUV. They did this so they dont have to send them over the pond when they make the SUV here in the states.

I would much prefer if the whole catalog was available via ED. that way we could just import the ones we want. its not like its all that hard with manufacturing today to slot in the correct US specific stuff while building an individually ordered car. It would be the best of both worlds really. you guys get your wagons and dealers dont have to have them sitting on the lot taking up prime real estate for their SUVs

Actually, Europe would buy more SUVs if they have the room for them. Tiny roads, tiny parkings... I drove my friends Cayenne in Geneva some years ago and the parking sensors where basically beeping constantly. The car was just oo big (and we are talking first gen Cayenne). Car guys like wagon because you get 98% of the driving dynamics of a coupe/sedan with more practicality and exclusivity.

It's really about regulatory concerns rather than manufacturing challenges.

If there were a cost effective way to bring non-certified vehicles to the US in low volume, you can bet manufacturers would find a way to do it. Unfortunately, there is no loophole - you have to play by the rules.

Probably not necessary to pull the thread OT with such a question. It's obvious very few people own wagons, and that number is especially small among those who prefer high performance vehicles since the only ones that exist in the US have a six figure price tag.

As much as it would be nice to believe there is a big enough market in the US for attainably priced high performance wagons, the demand is low compared to sedans and coupes, and because of the low unit sales volume, the gross revenue isn't large enough to cover the certification costs.

Reminds me the C43 wagon is supposed to be sold in Canada within a few months... could be a good alternative to the F31. Would much rather a 340 wagon though...

Sigh

Which is a bigger long shot to the US market: M3 Wagon or M4 Gran Coupe?

I'd prefer the latter, honestly.
