Can anyone explain the software versions and updates syntax? I've seen guys getting software updates in July, 2020 with both:

xx/2019.xx and
xx/2020.xx versions of updated code.

Is the 2019 or 2020 year when the car was manufactured and always stays the same? Then the first 2 numbers are month and last 2 numbers the version?

thanks

I’m interested in understanding this too. I have a 2020 model with the 2020 update. Maybe I should downgrade to the 2019 software if it will give me more burbles

It's the year and month the update was released

So my car from factory had 11.2019. I brought her in November and the dealer told me they had just updated the iDrive.

Then there was a March 2020 update which was 03.2020.

I've just had mine updated by the dealer to 07.2020 which is the latest update as announced by BMW.

The .XX after the months and year are subtle tweaks. So I have 07.2020.25 but 330e owners have 07.2020.30.

I still don't believe these updates change the the ECU of the engine and exhaust.

Hope that helps.

Okay, thanks. Makes sense. I have the March 2020 update. If I try running the check for updates option on iDrive it says there are no updates. Are you suggesting you need to go to the dealer to get the update?

Yeah I don't think 07.2020 comes out OTA until end of the year.

Dealer only at the moment but only if they agree to update alongside some warranty work. So if you say your iDrive is playing up, cuts out sometimes etc they may agree to do it....

Mine was only updated because my sunroof jammed open and wouldn't close. Initially they refused to update the software but they eventually found an issue that the system stopped recognising it was open so they updated the software and all is well.

This is my first time seeing an update on my M340i. I thought it was auto applying the update but it was just download the file. Low key started to freak out after just reading about a remote update that failed and the guy was stuck in his garage... Should I apply the update remote? What happens if I deny the update? I am currently running 07/2019.55. It is asking me to update to 11.2019.70. Should I keep my current software version?

I updated mine to the same one last month OTA and haven't had any issues

I have MPE and have noticed that the car has less pops and burbles with the update as well. It is unfortunate and I wish I never updated my software.

I noticed my car have waaaaay less burbles and pops. How I know this, I used to have it in sport individual mode with engine and trans in sport +. I used to shift from 1st to 2nd at about 5k RPM and it would pop, same thing downshifting. Took car in for ticket that I received of "loud exhaust" to deem the car was insteed stock. Received car back and what do I realize, no more pops when shifting, no pops downshifting.

Solution: flashed to stock with bootmod3. Now it's back to how it was prior to taking it in. It sucks that Bmw is doing this, but I found a way to fix it.

I'm sorry to say it did change, there were a few changes. I think some people are just not are detailed with how they drive and how the car sounds.

Change Include
-change in sport individual transmission in sport to hold about 500 rpms higher.
- less low end burbles and pops when revving only to about 3k in ANY mode.
- noticeable replacement should is a shorter prrt sound instead of 2-3 seconds of burbles.
- a few other small change.

Update 11/2019/70

I hope the next update with Android auto doesn't mess up anything else, I really want Android auto though.
Was this an official release or your personal observations
This is my personal observation, I have since gotten used to the sound and its fine. But there definitely a change, I don't think bmw would have to disclose or even want to disclose that type of change.

new m340i

Hi. I just got a new 2021 m340i. I've watched a lot of videos of this car's exhaust and i've seen a lot of pops and burbles.
IDK why my car doesn't do the same. I have it on sport plus mode, the valves are open but i get very small amount of low pops. Doesn't matter what gear or what RPM, I still don't get the same loud pops that are in those videos.
Does anyone know why my car is like this?

Seems to be an issue with the 21s. Probably the software. I was at a meet today with a guy in a '21 complaining of exactly the same thing. No matter what he wasn't getting any pops/burbles.

I hope this gets sorted out - haven't taken delivery yet, but mine will come with MPE - I've also been listening to a ton of sound clips and hope mine sounds just like them!

Have you already reached the end of the break in period (1200 miles)?

Mine is absurdly loud w the Dinan exhaust

I think the issue here is the 2021s for whatever reason. I'm up to date with my software, and with my MPE it's very loud as well with tons of pops and burbles. I wonder what they did to the 2021's?

Can the addition of the mild hybrid feature in the 2021's have something to do with it?

Do we know if you can use bootmod for 2021 models? Or have the ECU's been locked?
