so the exhaust gets louder or its the original sound when the valve is open but now 100% of the time? because the latter is what I assumed

The original sound when the valve is open. Since the valve muffles the sound a bit in comfort and sport mode. I believe it opens only above certain RPMs? With this mod, the valve is open all the time.

I'm looking to do this to my M340i, but I'm worried about codes/errors/CELs as the car is under warranty, only had it for like 2 months. Can some people tell their experience with the mod long term?

Thank you!

9000+ miles. No issues and no codes. I even left it unplugged when I took it in for it's first service.

i dont think there would be any issues other than how you latch the clip onto the car to make sure it doesnt get damaged to reconnect it

its like a light switch its either on or off but it wont throw any codes or anything

I am noticing a slight decrease in low end torque, maybe I messed up the back pressure?

Was it difficult to remove the spring? I noticed you used a metal wire wrapped around the exhaust pipe and had aligned it with the groove in the flap to lock it in open position. Looks like something I’d like to test too, instead on disconnecting the electrical connector.

Not at all, did it in 5 minutes. I had some miniature pliers and came out like a charm.

Although, I think the tricky part is gonna come when you want to put it back, but with some patience and being gentle, shouldn't be rocket science.

I did this about 7k miles ago haven't looked back. Although my dealer was looking into why my remote start wasn't work from my Carbahn Tune (BMW dealership was the one who installed the tune). Funny enough in their troubleshooting attempts they plugged it back in then told me it wasn't the problem later and unplugged it for me. I thought it was kind funny they unplugged it for me.

Presently Mission Performance is the only flash tune that offers a work around (leave key card in front storage tray) that allows you to keep your remote start functionality. My point is that is not something your dealer is going to be able to fix.

Has anyone done this on a 2021 model? I heard the never model doesn't sound aggressive as the 2020 model.

If you code the car to start in sport individual you won't have to set it each time you start.

not the same experience, even if the car starts in sport mode the valve is closed until the engine is warm

anyone else experience this?
Yes. It is a common issue. I have had the same with mine on occasion and there is a thread on here with loads of owners with the same issue of losing bass. Always comes back after powering down the car and rebooting.

I was considering this but talking to a coding guy who says we can code it to stay open always or always closed but don't have an option to change it. I thought some guy showed on a thread on here a picture of his I drive that had options to change the configuration. Did anyone else see that?

Anyway, getting little gunshy if you guys are sure on the 2021 that it stays open in sport + -- I already piss off the neighbors when I start the other fun cars to go to CnC on the weekends...

Correct me if I'm wrong but BimmerLink should have the option to open the flap? It does for my e82

Just gave this a shot on my M340i. Easy enough. E-taped the shit out of the connector and plug. No codes popped up on the dash. I might try pulling back some of the heat shielding and tucking the cable back there.

EDIT: easy enough to pull the shielding back (3 10 mm screws) to tuck the connector in while leaving the cable secured.

Just putting this out there…

If you have bimmercode, you can program in an option to open/close the flaps apart from the drive mode. I’ve used this for a long time now. You can read about it via this tread.

My M440i has the Engine Sound menu available from factory (SW 3.2021).
My selection is remembered.
I notice that in "Sporty" setting the exhaust flap opens after 1/2 a minute (at idle). In Balanced it stays closed at idle.
