Scott please tell me that the M3 will not get body colored rear diffusers. Tell me that was some preproduction stuff.

This is obviously speculation on my part but I wouldn’t be surprised if the time to finish the X5M to a level expected by an M car just required the time to the launch and it wasn’t that it was held back at least not for any significant time.
You’re stretching. So, your belief is that the the last generation M3, current generation X5 M, and current generation X3 M just happen to have distinct but perfectly rational circumstances that kept them from preceding the M4, X6 M, and X4 M respectively. Yet, even as Flasch confirms the new M3 will wait until late next year, which also happens to allow time for it to launch with the M4, you think that’s a strange situation.

No doubt that if the two do end up coming together, you’ll find some new rationale to explain why they must have had to hold back the M3 again. Something - anything - other than the possibility that despite appearances to the casual outside observer, it genuinely does make the best business case to launch it together with the M4.

We’ll just agree to disagree.

Yes, it’s what I believe and I don’t see it as a stretch. If they are launched together I will accept that it’s an intentional decision based on BMW’s strategy. I will however think it’s a very strange strategy. Not trying to one up you here mkoesel, I respect most of what you say here which is usually logical and based on empirical data.

For me though my reasoning make sense for the F8X, X5M scenario and the G80. It would also make sense for BMW to align the M3 and M4 to the stacked launch of the 3 series and 4 series to limit the time keeping a model out of the market and this time seems a natural opportunity.

With the M boss being on record saying 2021 you have the odds with you I don’t deny that. It still wouldn’t make business sense to me

I’m really excited about the M4 but Scott26 is hinting about an i4 launch the coming spring and I’ll take a serious look at it. I’ve yet to drive an EV since I’ve waited for a car from Porsche or BMW(not i3). The P-car is too pricey but the i4 should be better positioned. I’ll try to go about it open minded but the thought of no shifts and no noise is difficult.

Fair enough.

One thing that I've learned over the years is that, when something that doesn't make sense to me keeps occurring, it probably means that my understanding of the situation is incomplete. Sometimes, in cases like that, I am able to keep digging deeper and eventually gain critical knowledge that makes the picture become clear. Other times, there is simply no more information available and I just have to accept it and move on. That later step can be difficult because human nature is to seek confirmation bias. However, the reward for pushing past that instinct is enlightenment and a greater appreciation for the world around us.

Cheers

Damn!! This is a psychological gem fit for a good chunk of the forum's gemologists. This post needs to be read a few times over by many members.

If power is down a bit, Pure Turbo and ESS will hook me up.

All options on board, they are saying it will escape the big grill. So here we go.

All Set, I want it in RED.

BMW for life.
Alternatively, you could get all these hookups from one source: Porsche (911) or Chevy (C8). Seriously though, BMW will likely alienate much of their core M consumer base with these increasingly soft, large cars. Next gen M2 will probably be the last the BMW I ever buy...

I hope they do a change for the best but if the double lung grill stays I dunno.

As I have mention before every new model BMW has 2 seasons (summer/winter) of testing prior to market release. The G80 arrived late March 2019 to the Arjeplog Winter Test Center and has this winter 2020 for an other round of winter testing.

Pre-production models are used for government testing certification in each country, such as the US DOT, EPA, ect. The pre-production = production model, just all the pre-production models (in the 100's are salvaged after testing). For the example, the F90 worlds longest drift was a pre-production M5, as after filming at the SC PC, it went to the CES show and then the salvage yard.

Finally, part suppliers and their suppliers need time to ramp up production of OEM parts.

If you all recall there was a huge time gap from the X7 pre-production photos to market release and as SCOTT26 has mentioned the press will the drive camouflage G80's, as the M8 gap was around 8 months between press drives to market launch.

Ya all have PATIENCE.
