are you serious? what percentage of M owners actually take their car to the track? i would say less than 10% (talking out of my ass here). but it's definitely a minority. the beauty of M cars (at least to me) is their duality. track car if you want but also a great daily driver. i dont want an 340i. i dont want a stripped out M3. i want an M3 with options and a 6 spd.

and what logic is it that the more track focused M3s would have more options? shouldn't those be even more stripped down?

Well since I have not driven the new M5 nor the G80 I guess I can't say for sure.... but I assume I could tell the difference between AWD and RWD on those models. I guess I might find out someday. Currently while driving on the street in the M2 I prefer some safety net.

For an estimate of price increase you should get the price increase from a F30 and compare to g20 330i likely $4-5k tops imo. 20% would be minimum $13.2k increase which would have it starting at around $80k for the standard model.

You could also look at competitive pricing for a ballpark.

Arbitrarily throwing 20% out doesn't seem right

I agree. Everyone always says it's what they want but I want to see who actually buys it.

Doubtful. But given that it's going to be heavily his towards RWD even in AWD mode, I'd expect it to be transparent if not driving near the limit of longitudinal or lateral traction.

Case in point, my 2018 S4 in dynamic mode feels just as "RWD" as my M3 when just tooling around town below 7/10. There's no front wheel slip, no torque steer, no strange throttle behavior in corners, etc.

About the closest comparison I can come up with is the F32 440i as they are a B58, available in both 6MT and ZF8.

440i RWD 6MT 1540kg
440i RWD 8AT 1555kg

440i AWD 6MT 1615kg
440i AWD 8AT 1630kg

So 15kg extra from 6MT to 8AT and 75kg from RWD to AWD.

90kg or 200lbs. Ignoring every other possible spec difference of course which could be quite a bit.

I am curious what the car will look like. Seems the power dome is gone. But I hope it looks aggressive and wide flared arches. That and ability for us to fit 335 rears and 295 fronts. no floating caliper in rear, an aggressive exhaust and telepathic steering with a factory developed with ohlin coil over kit and 400 mm Brembo GTR optional brakes. Carbon options for fenders, hood, doors and trunk. Option for the hanging balls exhaust delete and active aero with deep venturi tunnels.

The ones that think manual is still better performance than technology.
Getting a manual transmission is about
Being more in control of the transmission thus more connected to the car.

Plenty of reasons to get an automatic
None of them apply to me.

O to 60 improvement from a car with 425hp+

Improved lap times I guess when it matters

Bumper traffic

More freedom with infotainment

Easier to eat while driving / coffee

Valet parking / loaning out your car

DCT in manual mode is pretty connected. I think my lines are better in DCT.

Which genius thought it would be okay to put less powered engine in Pure models?

Put F10 M5 6MT and DCT that currently handle 520 ft lbs of torque on RWD models. Problem solved.

Seems like a very reasonable means to source data for an intelligent estimate. Certainly better than the 150Lb SWAG that the other poster and I threw out there. Good work.

It is true that the Pure model may have less standard features on paper, and in principle this provides another possible way to keep weight down.

However, I would be hesitant to assume at this point that the type of content that a Pure model gives up as standard will account for much in the way of tangible weight savings. We shall see.

To me the power figures are secondary. More details on the powertrain would be how I make my decision. For example let's find out why one version has 444hp and the other 500hp...does one use a battery or water injection and the other does not?

It's about how power is made across these 3 trims which would be on interest to me because that will also change the driving dynamics of the car too.

Not as many as if they were offered with the fully optioned cars. BMW just trying to phase them out and using low sales to justify it. Such a shame.
Why yes of course BMW has nothing better to do but put money into launching a product expecting it to fail just to laugh in your face about the numbers saying "they've told you so".
