Connected how? Because you're flicking a couple of pedals? If that's engaging for you then more power to you.

Why yes of course BMW has nothing better to do but put money into launching a product expecting it to fail just to laugh in your face about the numbers saying "they've told you so".
So, if the rumors are true, you think that if BMW positions the manual with the least horsepower, no larger wheel options, no AWD and the limiting of options that manual sales won't reach a lowpoint??

You seem to think that BMW is trying to establish a burgeoning market with the manual by pigeon-holing it within the M3 lineup.

I see it as the manual being one step away from being phased out.

I seem to think that if BMW was just eagerly waiting to kill off the manual and saw no potential in it (market wise), they wouldn't even offer it in this form, most certainly not to suffer a loss just so they can point fingers and phase it out a generation later (which still may happen, but I doubt this product release would really be needed for them to justify it at that point).

A lot of the manual fans have been saying for ages that they don't want 2000hp and nanosecond shift times. They want a "pure" driving experience. Well, they'll be getting that as BMW kept the manual for this next generation of M3/4s.

Also where have you seen it won't have larger wheel options or other regular options that the other models will? Keyword options, it may have less fitted as standard, but I doubt BMW would prevent you from spending your money on upgraded audio or a 360 camera system, etc.

(Still not seeing why this would be the case, but) Even if they limit the options, if smaller factory wheels (or the lack of other similar options) deter you from getting the manual, I'd venture a guess you're not the one who'd go to another brand if it wasn't offered at all. (another thing is who you would go to anyway in this segment)

In other words, if you truly WANT a manual, smaller wheels and the lack of some comfort options won't be a deal breaker, because you're not in the market for those in the first place, but have MT as a priority. (I realize it's entirely fine to want all comfort options + MT (+ some even want AWD), but at this point it's even just hypotheticals what options will be available or not (well AWD most likely won't be, you're right), so let's just wait it out.)

A question came to mind...
Does all of this make the CS even less sellable / attractive than already ?

Just curious...

BMW is too busy making SUVs for soccer mommy's and Audis for everyone on here that wants AWD in their performance BMW. Sad!
Read this in our president's voice.

What do you think Porsche's best-selling vehicle is? Hint: It's not the 911.

What's the current fastest production car around the 'ring? Hint: It's not 2WD.

Just proving a point that these things you mention, while there is a bit of truth in them, are not mutually exclusive.

As far as the DCT goes, the Getrag unit BMW was using just wasn't that great. Marginally better than the ZF, but not worth the cost difference, IMO.

So how about my m2 competition manual will be my "Pure" and my g80 competition auto will be my ultra fast comfortable, ultra aggressive looking, good sounding sedan.

I'm afraid you'll need an F90 competition for the latter. Pony up!

They'll probably add that on comp or CS as a selling point.

If your wife only thinks she's cool, why does it make you laugh? Wouldn't it be better if she were truly cool, with good driving skills, comfortable with high powered cars, not afraid of manual transmissions etc.?

I would love one, but not aggressive enough compared to my friends cars. It's pretty stealthy, which I'm starting to appreciate. But that 2.9 0-60 my friend tested while getting a back massage does sound enticing.

Pure models are great and all but I hope BMW doesn't try to pull some bullshit again like the older pures. ANALOG TEMP CONTROL is ridiculous. Barely if not no weight savings. Looks worse then base VW Jetta.

Counterpoint to 75% of the comments: this could have been the end of the manual option with no choice but to find a new car. I think the Pure edition will absolutely have its own cachet and following.

FFS - you lucked out!

Personally I'll wait for the LCI 12.5 version of the competition model but get your manual M3 before they're truly gone.

I guess it really is the end of DCT when an insider mentions "auto" instead of "DCT" as BMW's internal naming seems to clearly distinguish the two.

Gotta say, shame on BMW for not willing to put DCT on RWD models. But then again, I understand as the manual uptake would definitely be lower if offered with both (i.e. can't make profit so we won't do it ).
It is sad how far BMW goes to push this xDrive on M cars for who can't(X) drive. Instead of being vague about "auto" they can do us a favor and just say 8 speed torque converter so some consumers can move onto other brands.

Plain speed is just boring.

The F90 looks fine except for that ridiculous fake diffuser that BMW uses on their 5 and 7 series. BMW M cars are supposed to be production sleepers, not some mid-life crisis mobile.

Only in if you can get a base or comp with 6MT and RWD, otherwise they can suck it.
