MX2 Coating / Ceramic - Frozen Paint

After a quick search I can’t seem to find much on this.

From what I can tell it’s a GuardX product for Frozen paintwork.
https://www.gardxprotect.com/product...int-protection

I’ve just been told they are applying this to my new M3. I forgot to be honest as it was part of the overall deal. Just sorting paperwork now and they’ve shown it on there as a £500 extra, but deducted £500 from the purchase price so overall price remains unchanged for me.

Anyone ever heard of this MX2 or know more about it?

My initial assumptions:
* GuardX imo is not a ‘go to’ name, maybe a bit of everything, master of none?
* BMW prices are always hiked, so £500 is actually £200 perhaps?
* Barely anything on Google suggests it’s not in use by many, or been reviewed?

Of course I’ll need to find out upon collection re maintenance. Can I still use a citrus pre wash, iron fallout, wax washes, spray wax drying and so forth……

Any info on this MX2 appreciated.

Never heard of hard max. There is in fact PPF from reputable brands designed specifically for matte paint. I’d much rather have my vehicle catered to by a professional detailer / shop that will paint correct, apply PPF and ceramic coat the entire vehicle. The less the dealer touches the car, the better. But that’s just me.

IMO any 'paint protection' is only as good as the person/company that's preparing and applying. Any paint protection. I think it's a case with most dealers that they offer this, ok on the surface it seems to be 'free'.

As a nearly new car, you can get paint corrected ceramic coating for around £5-600. It'll be properly prepped and coated.

Personally, I'd knock it back, but in saying that, if it's a jobby job, then a new car paint correction can still be done, with better results.

I'm sure there'll be loads of good recommendations from peeps local to you

Oh and only ever use PH neutral shampoos/snow foam etc on any coated vehicle, unless you REALLY know what your doing as some products will strip protection off.

I wouldn’t have agreed if I was being charged upfront, i.e. if we had done a deal and this was then an add on. As it’s been thrown in to sweeten the original deal, get it over the line, then for me it’s free!

I’ve asked before on ceramic places near me, they start at a grand.
Either way, I’m not looking to buy anything, even if it came with nothing I wouldn’t do it myself as I don’t keep cars long enough (this is my 4th car this year). Just curious on anyone’s knowledge.

Appreciate all responses irrespective, I actually agree if it was something I was buying.

Personally I wouldn't be letting the dealer touch the car, and I'd also be insisting the factory protection (blue film I think) was left on, then get it straight to the detailers.

I don't even trust a dealer to wash the car without making an ar$e of the paintwork, never mind applying a more technical coating.

I'd be even more wary with a new G81, but maybe that's just me!

As Dave said even for free I wouldn't want them applying this as I wouldn't trust the dealer to prep the car properly, they would be locking in any swirl marks or imperfections

But surely some protection vs none would be better? Also not sure what prep can be done to frozen paint, it can’t be polished.

I’m amazed that people like frozen paint. To me it always reminds me of how, when there were loads of old bangers on the road, cars used to look when they were very old. Particularly red cars, but other colours too. They all seemed to take on an appearance that it now the ‘premium’ frozen look.

Perhaps it’s just old codgers like me who remember the bangers of old who they don’t appeal to, and maybe a younger audience just doesn’t see it that way.

As ever, it’s great that we all like different things else the roads would be full of identikit cars!

Yeah, older red Vauxhalls were really bad for it. Probably been washed with fairy liquid

That said, I adore frozen paint finishes, especially the blue and purple. Black can look a bit like a blackboard though!

The more I read, the less I actually want frozen paint!
Looks like washing, products, everything changes…… the upkeep sounds a pain from what I’ve read, hoping someone with this finish has an input

Nah, it'll be fine. A decent matt finish compatible ceramic and maintain like any other car.

Might be worth asking members who have frozen white -

Thanks, I’ve been scanning the last couple of hours.
Ultimately I just want to enjoy it. I’m not going to worry about stone chips etc, so no plans for PPF or anything.

I do enjoy maintaining my cars though, so essentially a ph neutral wash seems to be the key, then dry! No other sprays unless your in the US in which their climate is very different to ours and they can wash from a spray bottle and cloth A lot of their pics and washing is like a perfect summers UK day, so generally they seem to dust their cars unlike the UK needs.

Will keep reading, but keep it simple I think

This.

Make them give you the £500 back and then spend +/- £1k instead on a proper detail, something like a full GTechniq package, where you will have credible protection and no risk of some bumbling buffoon shafting your brand new paintwork!

Definitely this! ^^^
My car picked up on a Saturday in Stafford and with the detailer in the North East at 8am the following Monday. Transit protection film had been (carefully!) removed by the dealer, it is their policy in order to check the paintwork for damage prior to delivery, and not valeted!
Detailer still had to do some machine polishing for paintwork correction before full ceramic coating the car.
Now over two years old, washing and cleaning takes next to no time and still looks amazing!

It sounds like he won't get the £500 back as they are discounting it to be free, so they'll remove that extra discount

I'd happily 'lose' £500 if it meant the dealer monkeys kept their paws of my new G81!

I’d agree….. but -

Just remember, as I said earlier, I’ve not paid - it’s part of the deal. If I cancel, I get nothing in return. There is no body prep like metallic for matte, it’s a clean and decom followed by applying this type of ceramic coat.

Ultimately, having owned each car 3 months this year, I’m not looking long term. This will take me to March/April ready for the next. Doesn’t mean I won’t treat it like my baby though as I do all my cars….. I take great pride, I just don’t invest for longevity as I’m terrible and can’t keep cars.

In that case let them crack on
No point in spending hundreds on a pro detailer just for the next owner to reap the benefit!

if you plan to keep the car for 3 months, then that a different kettle of fish!

Almost pointless having any questions, because even if they do shaft it - the car will be someone else's problem in 12 weeks time!
