DP on a newish car

What are thoughts on installing a dp on a model year 25 car? If I keep the car, I want get a dp to pair with my mpe to free up some sound and flow. Im leaning towards an AA dp, which they say should be available in the coming months. My biggest worry is the warranty. The SA at my dealer says if you come in for service with a dp or other mod outside of exhaust, your car can get flagged for future denial of warranty service. Im just not comfortable with that.

if you're worried about warranty then absolutely stick away from messing with the DP/Cats. they will flag you and they will deny any drivetrain related issues in the future for sure. the MPE opens her up quite nicely alone.

Isnt the cat/dp after the drivetrain? If there was an issue, the dealer wouldnt have to prove the issue stems from the dp before denying service?

The 2025 M340 has a different downpipe compared to the traditional B58s produced since 2016, unfortunately. A Lot will depend on the amount of labor it takes to change it and what lights are thrown on the dash if its worth or not.

My turbo went out on my 23 m340i at 19k miles. The dealership blamed it on my catted dp and voided my warranty.

Well that's concerning. I feel like everything I've read aside from this is that there's no way a high flow downpipe could void a turbo warranty claim because if anything it lowers the strain on the turbo... Were you tuned as well?

Please provide more details on this case. Why did they blame the downpipe? Did your pipes fail and cause damage? Was your car tuned,etc..

please post the paperwork if possible that shows the diagnostic that lead to this decision

No CEL guarantee means nothing unless AA will cover reinstall costs. Average shop costs for a dp install are ~ $500, so most will probably live with the occasional CEL popup.

Not a common occurrence. Most with the AA DP do not experience premature turbo failure.

Not sure if you’re waiting for a 25’ model year specific downpipe? I just got a new 25’ M240 xdrive. I immediately installed an AA catted downpipe and no CEL after 2 weeks. Fits great and adds a lot of sound. Paired it with DINAN exhaust and intake, very loud and throaty under boost. I believe it is the same part number for both of our cars. My installer said it fit perfect with no issues. Got it from Extreme Power House

They did not provide proof that it was the DP that caused the damage. They just stated that due to having an after market component, that automatically voids the warranty.

That is a standard response from the dealer, sure, we are all aware of how dealers respond to any modification no matter how silly the claim. With that said, you can dispute the claim with the dealer and if needed escalate to corporate. It is very much possible to have dealer replace any component under warranty even with adjacent aftermarket parts. It takes some negotiation and direct communication with decision makers at the local level, but it can be done.

The salesperson told me that the decision came from and outside person from BMW. Meaning not someone from the dealership. A part of me just wants to sell it back to BMW since it’s a lease and the lease is over in 7 months 😪

This is where becoming a “Karen” is the solution. From my experience and seeing others successfully yell, kick and scream to overcome the stupidity of dealers reasoning.
I had VW want to void my warranty of my daily driver, a leased Jetta due to me putting in a better air filter on the intake. They also initially denied turbo failure warranty due to the filter. I literally was yelling and making a scene at the dealership in front of clients, but using logic, rhyme, reason and objective truth is explaining how the simple paper filter made of the same material as the oem filter could not cause a premature turbo failure. The service manager signed off and I received a new turbo. It’s possible, just need to find your method of having them honor warranty.
