Grinding / Scraping Noise from Wheel While Moving (G20 M340i 2021 xDrive)
Hi All!
I initially noticed a grinding noise from the driver-side wheel while turning right. I was in a parking garage and notice this nasty loud grind with my window down (right after I took one of those parking tickets to enter a garage). I took it to the dealership about 2/3 weeks ago, and they identified this to be part of SIB 34 05 17. I thought that initially solved it as I didn't hear anything while driving until about today, I thought I had heard a faint grinding noise while turning and moving and so I decided to deep dive again. The noise did get better because I didn't notice it as easily as before, but now I realize that it's coming from BOTH sides turning left and right! I can only hear it if I get pretty close to the wheel like within 5 feet. Any idea what this could be? Coming back to the dealership this week. Video: Thanks! |

Copy pasting from my dealership's after visit summary:
First Visit: SIB 34 05 17 CLEAN ALL SURFACES BETWEEN ROTOR AND HUB, ALSO PERFORM PROCEDURE FROM SIB 31 01 12 EVEN IF IT DOES NOT APPLY TO VEHICLE, ORDERED REPAIR KIT 83 19 2 298 825, FOLLOWING SIB AND REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS REMOVED WHEEL BEARING AND SANDED DOWN. Second Visit: Removed front wheels check backing plates for the rotor. found one side was touching the rotor. push backing plate back. Test drove vehicle noise in one side no longer present. Found pass side can still hear noise. Drove vehicle to the shop raise vehicle in the rack and turn lock to lock, with vehicle running noise not present when there no load in it. Check tire size with sticker in the door jam. Found tires are okay. Reopen tsara case # 3302578 from last visit. Uploaded videos to case. per tsara to clean rotor and hubs. Removed rotors and clean hub area, check rotor and pads on both sides, installed back to vehicle. Found noise still present. Removed front wheel and rotors removed friction disc from last visit. Clean area again. Installed rotors and brakes back to vehicle. Took vehicle on eval drive, verify noise no longer present. TLDR: First Visit: Friction ring was installed on both front wheels. Did not solve the issue. It did not make it remotely better. [Google: SIB 34 05 17] Second Visit: Did a drive with the shop foreman to show where the noise is coming from. On one side, backing plate was found to rub against brake rotor. They took apart my brakes, cleaned hub area, installed back my brakes. If you ever go to your dealership, let me know what they did to fix the issue! |
