Is the G82 going to be a modern R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R?
So.. initially having great reservations about the G80, with the car having looks that only a mother could love, I have recently started to have a change of heart.
I will confess to spending lock down dreaming and browsing the classifieds for a R34 V spec, but the prices are insane given the cars are almost 20 years old AND mostly molested. I don't see myself spending £50k on a tuned one that may pop. Thus it got me thinking: 'what else is out there with a straight six, twin turbo, four wheel drive, fast as f* and with a focus on driver engagement?'. This is where I came back to square one so to speak. The G80 does indeed have the potential to appease us petrolheads - very few of us would turn down a R34 GT-R. Also looking at it in this context, one could always take the 'bag the face..' approach with that G80 grill; after all it wasn't as if the R34 was that much of a looker. Do you guys think BMW can pull it off, or do I have lock down madness? |

You may end up liking the looks after you see it live. I'm reserving judgement until I see it live. It may have an altogether different look live, who knows.

https://www.torque-gt.co.uk/nissan-skyline-r34-gt-r-v-spec-ii-nur-200220.html Ps. the prices of used gtr's kinda bring some perspective to the G80/82. We live in an age where we get so much bang for the buck that we can sometimes forget that actually we are quite lucky in many ways. |

6MT, M-XDrive (or whatever they're calling it) and cloth sport seats would be my perfect build.

Like mkoesel said, at its core, no AWD + Manual combo automatically disqualifies the G8x as any kind of spiritual or modern R34 GTR on paper or otherwise.
Also worth noting that despite the RB26DETT being a twin-turbo Inline-6, it was also built for response (comparatively speaking in the context of 90s turbo engines). It had individual throttle bodies & was actually quite a screamer (8000 RPM in its 'base' form for the R34). Tuned versions (aftermarket & factory) regularly see 9000 RPM or more. The RB26 engine & ATTESSA ETS AWD system were direct engineering offshoots of Nissan's Group A racing homologation program that started with the R32. That foundation and those characteristics set it apart from a car like the upcoming BMW M3/M4, which will be a high-performance premium sedan/coupe. Even the current GTR with its V6 and PM platform built off of the FM platform of the 350Z & RWD Infinitis have a different soul from the RB-powered Skyline GT-Rs

Pretty sure the CT5-Blackwing will only be RWD, haven't seen any mention of an AWD model.

I thought the same, but didn’t have the desire to research it nor to debate it. Time will tell, but I suspect the number of AWD performance sedans and proper four seat (not 2+2) AWD performance coupes on the market equipped with a manual transmission will remain zero next year, and well, every year after.
