Northeast US performance tire recommendations?

I have RFT on my M340i, and although I would absolutely love to have PS4S, I can't really use them when it gets somewhat cold. I would love to know if there are some tires that I can run year round that are not RFT but are as good as the PS4S summer tires.

Is the OEM set all season RFT that came with the car?
No Runflat will ever come close to the PS4S ability.
I would recommend to have two seperate sets: One performance summer set and one Winter Set (performance winters are available) If your car came with the all season rft, those will do fine in winter. This way you could drop that money on a Special summer set.
Swap in March and November

I have Michelin A/S 3+ and they perform pretty well for an all season tire but still not comparable to a performance summer tire like the PS4S.

I run Goodyear Exhilarate on mine. They are very good but a little on the noisy side. There aren't many good high performance all season non rft options with the correct load index for us with staggered wheels.

Has anyone ever ran PS4S tires year round and just park car when it snows. I know this is a summer tire and you should not drive below 40 degrees but I have driven my BMW's in the past and never switched. Never driven in the snow because I just jumped in the X5 for bad weather.

This would be insanely dangerous and irresponsible.
I was caught in flurries/cold front just after swapping back to summers last April. It was a nightmare. In Germany it is illegal not to have winter tires. And as far as cars go, does as the Germans do.

There are no tires that you can run year round that’s as good as the PS4S in the summer. There are always compromises. You can run all season high performance tires like A/S 3+ or DWS06 that’s a good compromise year round.

I agree with you, it would be irresponsible to drive with summer tires in the snow. I live in the southeast and watch the weather daily. I also own two X5'S and work close enough that I would be able to get home if there is any inclination of bad weather.our weather can be tricky, but not to that extreme. My 7 is mostly a garage queen and 3, once purchased will mostly be driven on dry days. I just didn't want the hassle of switching tires. I currently have DWS06 now but the sidewalls are so soft that I am going through tires due to potholes and Michelin has a stronger sidewall.

+1 on the A/S 3+, i run these year round, Boston area.

Agree, the A/S 3+ will not equal the PS4S which is probably the best or at least one of the best non-rft tires out there... however, I would stack the A/S 3+ as pretty damn close to the stock rft summers. I feel they are comparable in dry handling, slightly softer ride, and the benefit of not needing to change over in winter.

I'm debating PS4s vs A/S 3+ as replacement for my 330i. I live in NC and the temp does fall below 40 quite frequently in the winter. Can PS4s never be driven in temps below 40?

For those of you who ended up getting the A/S3's, how far apart is the performance? Does the A/S3 still handle well for occasional spirited driving? I'm sure it also depends on whether you get the V, W or Y rated version..

And as a trade off, the tread life must be a lot better with the A/S3? How many miles can you get out of them?

I have them on my wife's E93 vert and they handle well and are great in rain. The only thing I do not like is the tire looks really narrow compared to previous tires. If i had to choose, I would have gone with the DWS06.

- It is recommended not to drive on summers below 45F... however I drove my previous F30 on Bridgestone Potenza summer tires for one whole winter (NOT in snow, but Temps in high 30s, low 40s), but I was driving carefully and not pushing the car

- The A/S 3s handle quite well for occasional spirited driving at least for me, but the PS4s are in a different class

- The tread life on the A/S 3s is actually not that great... on my F30 I had to change them around 15K miles actually

I did the same on my PZero summer tires but bought takeoffs for this next season. Whenever my factory RF wear out planning on PS4S. Seems like if you really don’t want to have two sets the A/S3 are a good option, otherwise PS4/winter combo is the way to go.

Wow, only 15k? I've read that the PS4's last longer....don't the a/s3's come with a 45,000 mile treadlife warranty? (though i'm assuming that is as good as useless)

I think the warranty applies if you rotate your tires, otherwise for a staggered setup it's half of 45000 miles.
