Its amazing how many e90 M3 owners really don't care, nope, not at all. They've commented just to let us know.

Its not a dig, just the progress a couple of gens make. Non M touring now similar/better performance to back then. Was only ever going to be received one way

not gonna say im biased but this car likely is on newer tyres than the shit ps2's e90s came with but impressive none the less. the m340 in general is a good car.

what does this car run around the nordschleife tho

The arrogance runs wild, the technology progression in the new cars is very impressive especially for a heavy a estate car.

Anyone that wants to get an honest seat of the pants difference between the X3 M40i and the M340 simply needs to drive the two back to back.

Spend an hour in the X3. Then get into the M340. There is a remarkable difference.

Do we have an idea as to the engine output of this G21?

The new M340i probably has better tires than the E90 M3 had. Makes a big difference.

I would say that the X3 M40i is about as close to the G21 M340i Touring as you can get in North America from a potential buyer perspective ... If both were available here I bet they would be "cross shopped".

It's cool to see the wagon being hustled like that. Wish we got them with the old 6-speed here in the states. That's certainly a shame.

I also wonder what the M3 time would be on PS4S. That M3 time was likely set on 2 generation old rubber. That would be interesting to see how the time would change.

X2 for the tires that probably make a huge difference. It would have been a very hard decision bettwen the M2 and an M340 Touring.

Wagons are cool wish we'd get more in the US but we prefer SUVs.

E92 M3 is an incredible experience and glad its not that fast because I drive it to its limit daily and puts a huge smile on my face. These newer AWD turbo or electric cars cant do that.

When the buzz began about the M340i being comparable to my F80 in speed, at first I was a little peeved, too. After doing some homework everyone will notice that from the beginning every next generation 3 er will surpass the M3 from 2 generations ago. You don't hear any E46 owners bitching about F30s being faster. Just like the rest of us who love the E46, they love their cars regardless.

The G20 looks best in this form IMO. Realizing how much the overly rounded/styled rear has diminished that BMW classic look.

Agreed. I'm not a huge fan of the G series looks as a whole but I'm not saying it isn't a good looking car either. Just my personal opinion. But I've always been intrigued by touring versions of these cars, especially the ones we don't get in the states (C63s, RS6 Avantes, M5 tourers, etc.) Something cool about a grocery getter that can move.

lap times are not everything, the enjoyment of a true M car is what matters. throwing a M car into corners on B Roads are what makes it shine and the driving enjoyment you get from the chassis as well as the wail of the NA V8 as it screams to almost 9000rpm.......pure motoring pleasure....

All in all, that's still pretty impressive for the wagon. I don't know how many owners will track their wagons or for that matter, what the delta would be between a e90 and a m340 wagon over over a 30 minute track session. I suspect that the e90 with modern tires would be A LOT faster than the m340 simply due to heat management and design.
