Also I thought MDM was only on the pure M cars? Do we get a similar dynamic traction mode on the 340i?

yes you get MDM but it's called Traction+

as i said it's heavily RWD all the way until you get wheel slip and then X drive kicks in, to my dismay when i want to have fun,

and to my annoyance it's RWD all the way in slippy roads when i would prefer it to be AWD at all times in those conditions.
