Stop/Start less active during cooler weather?
Had my car for 3 months now. Have noticed that stop/start is activating much less often now.
Could it be weather related as we are coming off summer and heading towards cooler months & the engine needs to stay on to keep warm?. Is anyone else have this behaviour, particularly in Melbourne?. Usual commute hasn't changed. 13km to and from work one way in suburbia during daylight hours. My previous F30 stop/start behaved similarly all year round.

Quite possibly; and other factors including engine temp, whether u are using heating /de mister/AC, cabin temp, or on a slope etc etc
Also u prob noticed if ur in sport or sport plus it automatically deactivates stop-start. It's a bit annoying anyway so I'm not complaining if it doesn't activate as frequently 😎 |

Haven’t notice any difference in comfort or adaptive mode, once the engine is warmed up. Actually, I barely notice that the engine has stopped and have to check the rev counter. Super quiet and super smooth re-start.
As mentioned earlier, disengages in sport or sport plus.

I'm in NZ and yes, the auto stop/start does seem to vary depending upon weather temp and I guess maybe other factors. My M340i has the active grill thingy that helps the car warm up faster. But I have noticed that stop/start hasn't been activating as early in my drive as it used to....or at least it seems that eay

Another thing to consider is that batteries (like humans) do not like the cold, and tend not to function as efficiently in the colder weather.
If the battery is not at its tip-top best, the ASS will not operate. So, if you have inadvertently put a drain on the battery during a cold night in the garage, the battery may take a few more minutes to get up to its most efficient operating parameters. This is more prevalent if you do short journeys on your daily commute......just not enough time to fully charge the battery on short trips.

Lots of reasons why ASS won’t work as mentioned above....
From the ‘drivers guide’

Thanks Tam the Bam
Yes lots of reasons why Stop-Start won't activate. I'm pretty sure noe of these apply. In the past three or four weeks, S/S hasn't activated at all!

I had the same issue a few weeks ago. For me it was the battery. All returned to normal after I charged it.

I think short runs thru the winter with high drain. Seats lights etc. Then going into lockdown with once a week usage but only a short journey to the supermarket was the cause. Others are experiencing similar issues.
BMW have also put out, on connected drive, advice about keeping your battery charged during this time. See discussion here.. https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1707662
