I think it just a case of "jump on the bandwagon" lets face it, what energy crisis? IF there was how come the energy companies are making billions more this year in profit to last? just shows there actual cost has not gone up! they just rip the consumer off..

Companies have an excuse, people will just accept it now as its the "norm" stuff has gone up.. Think we are all being conned!

I must admit my broker through the IAM scheme was gutted and sounded really fed up having to tell people ..

This was Cornmarket Insurance in NI great company for the last 14 years and I will try them next year..

My renewal has come up… went on line with my own insurer….. Plumbed in all the facts… 435% price hike!!??!! Is that a record!!!!???

No circumstances change from last years policy…. so much for this alleged level playing field with quotes etc…

Then renewal paperwork landed, only (?!?) a 100% hike…
Anyway confused and go compare both got quotes that were similar to what I paid last year so relieved tbh!!!

Just seen this on the BBC site

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-66521490

I was one of the customer leaving admiral when they hiked my insurance from £390 to £980 and couldn't give a simple reason other than they didn't want me and my car due to costs of repairs

Interesting, my insurance was due on 15th August and I spend countless hours and done at least 15 quotes from different providers, in the end I concluded that Admiral offered the best based on value of the car and mods.

Also Hastings Direct were due for renewal on 15th and been very good to my wife, me and Skoda SUV BUT they did not like my M340, with mods, without mods, with tracker...

I renewed with Sheila’s Wheels back in July with a £100 odd hike.
A simply colossal mistake on my part.
Car stolen to order c/w house break in and wallet theft.
Got it back that night thanks to tracker.
I’ll keep it short for now, but I’m in a world of hurt.
They are basically un-contactable, hours and hours on hold, and they have done precisely nothing, nothing, in nearly three weeks.
I cannot get a courtesy car as they have not ok’d the repair.
I now need to get a hire car for a holiday, another £850.00 minimum.
Do yourself a favour, and whoever you go with - read some reviews at least.
I have now read page after page ref Sheila’s Wheels (Esure) and boy, am I in trouble.

This may be of use to those looking - not sure how fully up to date it is, but using comparrison sites is actually, well, not brilliant when you see who actually owns them!

my post above is my first claim in many, many years, and to feel as abandoned as I do, is rather disturbing, after having shelled out £1200.00 not 5 weeks ago.

Insurance is a con, nothing less. My Dad worked for the Prudential many years ago. He saw the ethics going out the window some 35 years ago and could not work for them anymore.

Things have gone down hill considerably since then too. Best of luck!

So... Been getting quotes for my new to me M340i that will be replacing my Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDI on the 1st of september. Did an on-line quote with my current insurer. They wanted around £300 more per annum compared to any other quote I'd found through the numerous comparrison websites.

Today, I have actually had confirmation that my car will be delivered on the 1st of September, I thought that rather that just cancel my existing policy, I'd update my details of the existing policy, just to see what that did, and much to my surprise, my current insurer is quoting me only £43 to change my car till my policy is due again at New Year, and their expected annual quote is less than HALF of the best quote I could find through any of the aforementioned comparrison websites. All be it with a £130 hike between the combined excess I'd been aiming for (£300) and what my current insurrer is offering on their policy. It's still nearly £400 per annum cheaper if I stick with them.

All other details of my policy remain the same.

Car insurance is really, really weird!!

For a £43 increase it's a no brainer.
Fingers crossed things are starting to look better for you now as the excitement builds towards the delivery date!
I bet 1st Sept can't come soon enough now!

Yup!! Looking forward to it!! With all the worry about the bodywork repair they have had to do, I'm still a bit concerned about that, but it seems that with a long distance sale I actually do have the right to reject the car for nearly any reason for up to 14 days after I get the car, which is more than could be said if I'd gone to the dealer and bought the car in person.

I sure hope it does not come to that of course, but it does provide that little bit more peace of mind.

That would have been similar for me only my previous insurer insisted on a tracker to cover it so I ended up moving anyway as it was cheaper overall

Interesting to read this as have a M340i Touring coming in October and was looking for some tips! My current F31 330D has always been c£500 or less to insure over past 9yrs, mix of Direct Line, then Admiral and back to DL. First quote I got from DL was £3k, BMW insurance £82 a month which was a bit of a relief.

Interestingly my insurance renewal (anniversary price review in the case on BMW flex insurance) went down by 5.3%.. which surprised me in light of all these comments. Only snag as declaring o/h claim during the year.. which put it up 18%!

M340i XDrive 2021 Model - £450 last year, quotes 28 days before renewal day - cheapest was Aviva Zero £752, quote today 21 days before renewal date £535 with Aviva Zero. So less than £100 increase with slightly better cover and less excess in todays financial climate is a acceptable result IMO.

Having just gone through this myself, all I can say is make sure you call up your insurer at renewal time and negotiate / haggle hard with them!

I’m with Admiral, and last year was just over £600 for my car and home, this year my renewal came in at just under £1100! Did the usual comparison site thing, could get both around £850 ish…called Admiral and got it down to £757.

Mine has gone up 50%, quote from current insurer (Aviva Zero). BMW M440i (G22), 15k mpa, social & commuting. Comparison sites give about the same as the renewal quote, so in that regard, the renewal for once isn't that bad (in part due to new regulation, I'm sure).

However, I could still find it a little cheaper, and Aviva Zero is online-only and you can't speak to anyone to discuss. However, reading this thread, I had a thought and tried BMW's own Flex Car Insurance, and this works out considerably cheaper (around same price I paid last year), and is monthly payments; so I'm going to cancel the policy I took out (still within the 14 day cool-down period) and go with them.

This is one factor in deciding get rid of my M440i and put in an order for an i4 M50 through work's salary sacrifice car lease scheme. It'll take a while to arrive (estimated wait time is long) so in the meantime I just need the best I can find and I'll cancel when I'm selling it.

For my M340i, I couldn’t get it any lower than £900.

BMW Flex was a strange one. It came in at £1200 and when I looked at the breakdown of how the price was determined, the biggest negative criteria was “experience of driving this kind of car”, I’ve been driving high powered BMWs for 8 years prior to now, and had just exchanged the 2019 M340i for the LCI!

But of course as it’s all online and there’s actually no way of it knowing my previous car history and no telephone support if you have any queries.

Insurance sure is baffling.

Had an email this morning from dealer stating expected delivery of my G21 M340i in 2-3 weeks. So went onto Tesco insurance to get a quote to change from My X3 M40d, policy renewal is mid Dec.

Put in the car details as the reg/cost of the newest one i could find on Autotrader, Guess what they will refund me £24.03 a month until renewal

No doubt they will stiff me then.

You can bank on it as the quote was for a used car so if it gets stolen as you are not the first registered keeper they would not have to pay out for a brand new replacement.
