New Build Progress

Got an update from garage yesterday saying car was moving to build stage (see screenshot). Does anyone know what the next stages are? Thanks.

So these are the build stages.

If it's gone to build it'll likely be 5100. Mine went from 5100->9000 in 4 days but sat at 5055 for 2 weeks. They're pretty quick once they start.

If you have your BMW order number (starts with a 4, 7 digits long) you can use LiveChat on the BMW website to talk to the Genius folks and they'll tell you the build status code. To find LiveChat go to Build (any kind of model) and you'll see it at the bottom right. It doesn't offer LiveChat on iPhone/iPad but is fine on my iMac and also Windows 10 work laptop.

If you've not seen it then this video shows the G20 production process, pretty fascinating, although they don't show the interior construction...

Thanks for the info. I don’t have the order no. I’ve looked at a few different videos of G20 build on YouTube. They are interesting to see.

I’ve looked for the live chat on the BMW website but don’t see it. Tried a search and also went to configure but no chat appears

Is it a private purchase or lease through a company car scheme? If private then it should be on your order from the dealer (or if not I'm sure they'll give it to you), if lease then depends on the dealer supplying the lease company. Mine is through Arval and the dealer is Inchcape. They were fine giving me the order number when I asked. But other folks here have also bought via Arval but with a different dealership (Sytner I think) and they wouldn't release the order number, for no real known reason...

I'll take a few screenshots later to see if I can help show you what you should see. Sometimes it is offline and it only offers email or call back.

Thanks Tricky6. Private purchase... I’ll contact the dealer to see if I can get the order no. As for live chat..... been on the BMW website many times over the past few weeks and never seen it.

Yeah it's not that obvious at all.

See attached screenshots. You can see the LiveChat at the bottom right on the last picture. Click on that and it should offer you Live Chat/Email/Phone etc...

Brought up same pages as you have shown. I don’t get the blue box at the bottom... Tried it on my iPad using Safari & Google Chrome and same on my iMac .... no blue box with “live chat”

Are you running an ad blocker on your Mac? That’ll stop it appearing.
Also, it won’t work on iOS, unfortunately.

Hello.

We recently picked up our new 69 plate 320i M Sport Plus. We were put in the same position as you. Maybe I can help?



If I'm correct, the next stage is paint shop, then it's fully assembled and then it's left the factory.

I'm not sure if you will get updated when it will reach the dealer/centre, because we didn't.

I think that the chat line with the Genius has been scrapped.
You have to make an appointment with him at the dealer.
I contacted the Genius nearly everyday on the chat line when my car was being built.
Probably that’s why it isn’t available.

Sounds like you're on track for next week then! :-) Mine is still on 9000 (since last Friday first thing), not sure how it can take that long to get it from the factory to the port but hey ho. How long did yours wait at the stages from 9000 until now?

Ah should move to 9000 pretty quickly. Not quite sure where mine has ended up. It was 9000 first thing Friday but is still the same now. Can't take more than a couple of days to get to the port I'd have thought (it's about 800 miles to Calais from Munich) but not sure where they ship out of and maybe they don't move over weekends.

I know they arrive into Southampton so was guessing France/Netherlands but perhaps they like to ship directly from Germany in which case it would be up North somewhere and a long(er) ship ride!?

What are you waiting on?

That is weird. What kind of device are you using? Have you tried using a different web browser? It works fine on Safari on my iMac and on Edge on my Windows 10 laptop. Guess you know it doesn't work on iOS devices?
