Love my M340i however a few gripes I have are;

1. Lack of steering feel
2. Huge gaps between the wheel and fenders
3. Steering wheel too thick
4. Tach display - WTF
5. Rear bumpers have a weird design line/crease on each of the sides which looks out of whack

I guess the problem for many of us is BMW used to be “the ultimate driving machine”. They are still fine cars but that doesn't seem to be their moniker anymore.

I have a 2009 e90 328 beater and it kills just about every new car from all brands in steering feel. Why did every manufacturer go to EPS anyway? Cost?

I think it's more that they need EPS to deliver all this autonomous technology.

Coming off the F80, became a habit for me to hit "M1" (then the gas pedal), then Engine start...
So, now, I do:
1) Sport
2) Engine Start
Solves the Auto Start/Stop issue for me....

Can easily code the vehicle so that it starts in whatever mode you want with auto start stop disabled.

I am sure you can, but that involves additional investment and time

It takes 5 minutes, a $30 app, and a $10 cable. The other options and customizations you can unlock are WELL worth it!

It is. You'll need an adapter (wired ones are faster and cheaper than wireless).

The thing that bugs me most about the car is a pretty minor change from G20 -> F30.

Anyone notice how you can't turn your headlights off while the car is moving? The headlight controls have been changed to a set of buttons, as opposed to a dial on the F30 which allows this. It's a small regression in the amount of control you have over the car's interface, but it still bugs me a bit.

I miss a couple of very minor things from my F30:

1) I wish my new car had the elastic band on the wall of the trunk to hold bottles. I kept detailing spray there in case of bird bombs. I also really miss the "secret" compartment under the trunk liner. I kept all kinds of emergency items in there and it made not having a spare almost acceptable.

2) I would still like to be able to double push the ignition button to turn off the head unit (?) once I park the car and turn off the engine.

3) I wouldn't mind having the door unlock button in the center of the dash again. It's been two months and I still reach for that space to unlock all my doors.

What is that button for in the middle with a car inside a circle??
Not ejection, apparently

@MGM340i,

The car encircled in green under iDrive is for the safety systems -- like lane keeper, blind spot, etc.

That button allows you to turn all off or all on or adjust some

100% agree.

When I'm in manual it usually means I'm flogging it. I can't and shouldn't be looking down at the dash, especially if I'm cornering.

In a real manual you know what gear you're in because of the last shift or you when you drop your hand on the stick in prep for the next shift.

I always feel disoriented without equivalent feedback on the HUD when driving hard in manual.

Does the HUD show the RPM?

I made a post about this somewhere else some time ago.

For the steering feel I found something very disturbing. I was on a longer drive and I had changed driver profiles. I did a quick lane change and I felt the most disgusting steering feel ever. I had never felt the steering so bad, I thought something had broken or failed. It felt like an elastic band being pulled when i did adjustments.

I went into the settings for the "safety" features. Found the culprit. Turns out, if you have the lane departure warning with assist, it turns your steering into jelly. Horrible.
I turned that that assistance off and used the reduced mode for the vibration/intervention. MUCH better.

Seems like the EPS system changes calibration when all of that is active. So weird.
