That guy really had no clue why the MH setup even is in the car...

AC doesnt have to do with the MH setup at all and the MH setup obviously will not allow the car to drive electric only... One would think being in an enthusiast forum the members knew stuff about their cars...

In my CLS you can reverse using only "electric." It doesn't happen every time, but there are times where I've caught it using only the mild-hybrid, although my system also uses an electric supercharger so that may make a difference, and of course MB implements their mild-hybrid technology differently than Audi or BMW.

As for him not having the knowledge of a MH system, I still think the fact that he could feel the system activate and was unhappy with the lack of an off button and loss in fan speed/AC still does answer OP's question of whether it is still an intrusive system.

One thing we have been wanting someone to try is to code it to remember the last ASS state and then drive in Sport mode and see if the next time the ASS is off. You didn't happen to try that before coding the default driving mode did you?

There's no such thing as "last ASS state" anymore, because the button is gone.

Why would BMW remove the button? Fuckin idiots, it's already a pain to disable that shit every time I get in the car since it doesn't remember it... but removing the button overall, wtf?

Sport Plus mode bud, start car, hit button, no more start stop to worry about. I never drive in Sport lol so don't know if that deactivates it as well. Comfort or sport plus for me always.

Sport deactivates it as well. Basically one touch of the sport button or individual (if you have engine/transmission set to sport) and it will act as your start/stop disabler.

I know the button was gone, that was the reason for testing that setup to see if internally the ASS being off with sport mode is recognized.

Flamingi thank you for this excellent description of how the mild hybrid system works. I wish more members of this forum would fully read your post before making evidently incorrect claims about start/stop with MHEVs.

One thing is not clear to me, and maybe Flamingi or others can help. Are all m340i's in production now MHEVs? There seems to be some debate about whether Munich built M340is will only start to be produced as MHEVs in November, but are already being built in Mexico as MHEVs.

AFAIK all M340i MY2021 will be 48V, since all M440i will be 48V and the powertrain is just copied to the 3 series.

Easy solution:
Sport Individual
Set everything to COMFORT
Engine will not shut off, and you can drive like normal without getting poor fuel economy by being in SPORT PLUS all the time.

I see what you mean. I can't reproduce that anymore, since I've coded my car to always start in sport individual. Then my individual settings is everything in comfort. Problem solved.

Dude we don't eat whole wheat cinnamon raisin toast for breakfast. If we throw the M340 into Sport Individual we want that thing to fly like a beast.

This. 100%.

It's. So. Damned. Ugly.

However, the leaks of the impending M3 wagon are kinda sexy.

All 2021 3 series will have MH and no ASS button except M3/M4 still offer this feature.

Beginning with Summer 2020, BMW expands the mild hybrid electrification technology to 37 new models. Thus, the lineup of models fitted with standard 48-volt starter-generators will extend to 51 models. The mild hybrid technology is particularly useful, as it optimizes the powertrain functioning, provides a power boost when needed and supports the engine workload in various situations.
