Climate Control... a bit invasive?
I've had climate control on a number of other cars (BMW and non) for many years (15+) now and for me it's a great feature. I just set it to Auto 22 C when I first buy the car and it pretty much stays like that for the life of the car with me. Always works well, in the background, imperceptible save for its ability to make the cabin quickly comfortable in all conditions.
Now, with my new G21 its not quite been like this... I can feel it changing its parameters, eg: air moving from feet to screen. Its sometimes too cold and then not cold enough, even if I bump up the temp 0.5 C. Has anyone else noticed this on their car? I have it set to Auto 22C front and back & with auto-recirc (which I occasionally override when I see black clouds of death from older diesels) and 0% stratification (ie: "temp adjustment") at front. |

I've definitely found it a bit different from the F30. I used to leave it on 20 in those but found that too cold in the G21 and have gone for 21. Like you say I also notice it kicking in more.
None of which is bad just different I guess.

It's probably down to perception, when the car is hot I put it on 16 to cool down and then 19.5-20.5 when it has cooled down, if it's cold and I put it on 20.5 then it feels effing freezing!!

Have you tried adjusting the fan speed lower?

That’s a good point. I always have mine 1 step lower than the fastest setting.

Thanks guys. I don't adjust anything apart from the temp (which I keep at 22C) as making adjustments is the "job" of the climate control. If you start changing fan speed / flow direction its no longer on "auto" and therefore not doing the job for you.
I suppose my point was, I'd expected the latest and greatest to work at least as well as that of our older cars. Instead, by making itself felt, I don't think its working as well. I know... first world problems and all that! |

The fan speed control dictates the maximum it can go to. It’s still automatic.

In the AC Menu, there are settings to adjust the fan/temp for passenger and driver-- if it's consistently too cold or too hot, that can be adjusted.

I've run a G20 loaner on a couple of occasions, one time over 200 miles. I just set the CC as I'd run my F11. Fully auto, 20C, intensity level 1. Never noticed it doing anything unusual, driving different ambient temperatures. |

As said adjust the max fan speed you let the car go to when it's adjusting the air temp. It's still full auto you are just restricting the power of the fans so less noticeable.

I’ve not had the car for long enough to know properly, but I found the intensity thing a bit daft.
I had it set at one up from low, but on a baking hot day at 18degs it wasn’t letting the fans do enough work to keep it cool enough. It seems like it’s contradicting any sort of auto fan control that has just worked in other cars. |

I’ll do some more experimenting, I did turn the intensity up and I felt like it was blowing more than necessary.. I’ll get there with it.

Well, every days a school day. I always thought the fan speed would be automatic, like in every other brand of car I've owned, and would raise/lower in speed depending on how far off desired temp it was.
So, basically I now have manual auto climate control?

A bit like you have control of the actual temperature!

Thanks for all the views and information. I too wasn't aware that there is the opportunity to control / limit the flow of air separately.
Are you guys referring to 0:41 from the following video? God... these cars are so complicated! |

Not sure what is complicated, BMW simply give us more options than most systems. |
