What are you at now? Currently my 20 m340i is still on 11/2019.50. I have a shitload of pops, burbles, backfires and all that awesomeness! The moment I update it's all gone. Period. Don't do it brother. You will regret it.
I'm on 11/2020.50. The car still cracks, pops, and burbles like it did when I first got it in May 2019. Is it only dealer updates that affect it or do OTA updates have the same affect?
Interesting. I bought my 2020 in June of last year with software version 11/2019.50. Car was manufactured Feb of 2020. Funny yours is from May 2019 and yet you have newer software.

My guess is you've been updated since you originally bought the car in 2019. Another guess is your exhaust note will be nothing like mine on earlier software. Mine is absolutely obnoxious! Just the way I like it.

Yes, I've done 2 OTA updates since I've owned the car. And the exhaust is very aggressive. It's well known around here that the early release cars had a nice exhaust note and according to some, more power than advertised. My car is perfect. I don't want to do another update if it will neuter it.

07/2021 brought nothing new. It's worth noting the software in this release was actually finalised late October 2020, and obviously takes that long to go through QA, so I imagine it is a covid related release as to why no features. Let's see what 11/21 brings in a few months

If you mean the m lap timer it's been there's for a while, but you need to install the app on your phone ( there's a new one under the same name )

I'm still on 07/2020.80

Pretty sure M-Timer wasn't added until the following update?

Curious if it works at the Nürburgring or just the various performance centers?

Had my MY20 updated from 07.2020.x to 07.2021.x this morning. All pops and burbles are still there, even when lifting off light throttle at low rpms. I will need more seat time to verify any possible subtle changes

It's interesting to me that I'm on 11/2020.50 and they're only pushing the 03/2021.50 update to me. Your software was older than mine, and they pushed 07/2021.x to you… It doesn't make a lot of sense.

Let us know about the exhaust. I'm not a believer that they're muting everybody's exhaust but I also don't know why the updates affect some cars but not others. Is your car an early 2020 model?

I had 03.2021 for OTA but hadn't installed it yet. The dealer installed 07.2021 for the brakes recall. My car is a 07.2019 build

I decided to go for it and the result is…

I did an OTA update from 11/2020.50 to 03/2021.50 this morning and there was absolutely NO change in the exhaust, shift points, etc. I can still make the exhaust crack, pop, and burble with ease.

Edit: According to an online VIN decoder, my car's production date was 2019-03-13

I’m at the dealership today getting oil changed, they mentioned a software update to be done. I was previously on 7/2020, so will let you know what it gets updated to. I’m a 2021 M340i xdrive, and DME was locked so didn’t really care about getting the latest software. If anything, I’ve been checking for it and it doesn’t show as avaailble so curious to see what changes.

Got 07/2021.50 early this week and what I notice is a smoother ride in electric mode, less clunky specially when braking/charging.

Got my car back from oil change and warranty work earlier this week (steering rack replacement). Software got updated to the 7/2021 (previously 7/2020) software.

Things seem pretty much the same, but the car does....drive slightly different. Can't put my finger on it. Could be ECU relearning after a reset I suppose and/or placebo affect, but it's 'smoother'(?). Speedometer still says it's fast, butt dyno says it's slower. Can't imagine they're continuing to nerf this engine though. Will need Dragy runs to really compare I think.

Can anyone tell me what the latest firmware version is? I just checked my 2020 M340i and it currently shows 07/2021.46.

xnick101 ,

While BMW dealers have 11/2021, you have the most current OTA version

BMW puts out 3 updates annually in: March, July and November; these updates are available to dealers in that month. It seems like OTA updates lag by one cycle-- in other words, in November, the July updates is available OTA.

Hope that helps!

This was very helpful sir! Thank you for this information. Is there any way to see what are the updates, like release notes? The car is going to the dealer on Saturday to fix a leaking diff, so I could ask them to update it before I bench unlock it soon.

xnick101,

Glad that was helpful!

As best I've found is to check the ConnectedDrive portal for release notes. Having said that, however, a couple of caveats:
* While I have found release notes there eventually, seems they're slow to post them.
* BMW North America has been "working" on site for some time and it is not always up to snuff

BTW, haven't seen 11/2021 release notes yet either

Updated to 07/2021.50 last night. Looks like it took away the feature to have heated seats and steering wheel turn on at a specific temperature. Wtf BMW.

@GAPortimao: Give it a couple of days. Others have reported here that those "app" controlled features disappear temporally after updates. (Strange design.)
