Rear Brake Change at 15K? 2023 330e Drive

Hi,
I know there have been multiple other posts about early brake change but I am honestly surprised about the alarm going off as this is a hybrid with its own motor for braking so expected less wear on the pads. Dealership quoted me $1025. I did not get the Ultimate care as I didn't expect this type of maintenance before 3 years/36K. Any thoughts regarding rear brake pad change at 15k? Thank you.

The traction/stability control system uses the brakes to control the car.

15k doesn’t seem right. I’m on 59k KM, 2020 330e. Use DAP every day on my 45km commute and no brake wear issues

I think I'll have an independent mechanic check the breaks. maybe faulty sensor? At 9800 miles, the brakes were "green" so in a matter of 5k miles, we're at the point of changing is very unusual.

Can I ask if you do a lot of hard cornering? I've seen so many of these posts I wonder if the car uses the rear brakes to help turn the car (maybe not as doesn't make sense - I thought front brakes is the key here) or as traction control or something as this car is heavy Rwd - the back skidded out on loose tarmac road when I was driving in a straight line at a gentlyish accelerating from 50 to 60mph the other day.

Honestly no hard cornering. I drive in eco pro mode Sports mode literally gets turned on maybe 3-4 times per week for 30 seconds to overtake a car on the highway. This is XDrive if that matters since RWD came up.

That does not seem right. Perhaps the brake pad wear sensor is faulty? Also, I wouldn't recommend the dealership for brake changes, a local independent shop will probably do it for half the price. OE brake pads are half the price and labor is significantly cheaper too.

I'm hoping for a faulty sensor too. I don't hear any grinding. If its a faulty sensor, covered by warranty?

It should be covered if it is a bad sensor. The sensor trips at 3mm or so, you can check your pad thickness if you want (there are tools that let you check pad thickness without wheel removal).

Took it to the auto shop today and it is the sensor that is faulty. Brakes were 10mm. Cost of diagnostics was $90. I did not know that diagnostics were covered under warranty but honestly don't fully trust the dealerships either. I have made the appointment for sensor to be changed at the dealership. The cost of rear brake pad change was quoted at $1021~. Wanted to give update to those who are interested.
