did this today - worked like a charm.
now the passenger door started rattling 2x worse than the damned center speaker ever did. i've pressed and banged on everything - nothing. i think it's inside the door... srsly. |

can't get speaker cover off
thanks for the dyi suggestion. I think I have the same problem. However I am having trouble taking off the speaker cover. Can you provide a bit more detail on that step? I'm afraid to cause damage. I am leasing the car and it's only 1 month old but I already noticed the buzzing/rattling noise from that area at high engine rpms.

Removing the cover was harder than I expected. Took 45 mins trying to push each clip in and lift. I tried the basic trim tools but they were too thick to get it to the right spot for me. I ended up snipping an inch off an expired credit card, locating the clip, and jamming it in at ~ 45deg angle. I bent 1/3 of the back of the card to get better grip.
It did fix my rattling that would occur at 1.5k, 3k rpm. Seemed to vary depending on what kind of music and how loud I was playing. |

Same issue as some other owners - dealer couldn’t find the problem either and just adjusted treble and bass settings.
Applied the felt and refitted cover and rattle has now gone. Awesome! Thanks for the detailed instructions!! Just did it on mine, but used foam tape instead because that's all I had at the moment. It's a lot thicker and can absorb more so I'm hoping it'll do just fine. Thanks again!

Thank You!
Thank you for the excellent step by step instructions. I thought I had a blown speaker and was going to take my new car to the BMW dealer. I am so glad I found your post. I did use a 45 degree angle slim trim tool and your pictures to pop the speaker cover. I did use self stick velcro tape (soft side) and this worked perfectly. The entire job took last than 10 minutes and likely saved me big bucks. I love this car and now no more rattles. Awesome.

Although I had exactly the same issue on my previous MB E43 AMG built in Burmester HiFi , I have never thought doing it on the actual G20. It seems to be a "central speaker curse" as my ex F10 B&O central speaker was falling when road quality not too good.
On the G20 the job was done only by using the "recommended" card , panel removed in 5 minutes (if you can be accurate in regards to the clips locations from the above pics). Thank you very much gnr4all ! Last edited by aquamaster; 11-22-2021 at 01:40 PM.. |

Just completed this modification. However, I realized the felt I bought was too thick. While I had the cover off I just tried electrical tape, and I can verify it works too.
Thanks to the OP! |
