Built in Sat Nav

What are people’s view on G20 sat nav? Presently have non BMW car and built in one is poor so have hard wired in Tom Tom with live traffic traffic etc. Is BMW one good? Have 330e MSport on order with standard version.

I think the Nav in my BMW is very good. You also get live traffic info .. rerouting etc. The nav information you get on the HUD is great too (HUD comes with the Technology package).

Definitely the best I have experienced...especially with live traffic.

Can it show safety cameras (speed cameras!) or do you need to use Carplay to use Waze/Google?

Sat nav is very good, quick and dependable. I still use Waze alongside it as the traffic updates on the BMW are a little less "live" than Waze

Way better than the Tom Tom live I had on my Merc C Class. I do find Google Maps a little more accurate delay time wise, and a little quicker in picking up jams.

I really rate the BMW system.

In particular I like the voice command.....yesterday i was in a strange area and I asked it to 'take me to Morrisons'.

And it did.

It doesn't get better than that.

I personally only use the BMW satnav for guidance and optimisation of electric/ICE in Eco Pro mode.I just have Waze audible warnings running in the background for Police/Av speed camera’s and all the irritating stuff designed to catch us and further tax us.

Waze is excellent for advanced warnings imho

Can you search for addresses using longitude and latitude or do you have to use postcode?

I have to say that, good though the BMW navigation is, RTTI is absolutely useless - I drive South Wales to London quite frequently and my BMW often under-estimates by 30-60 minutes, whilst Waze is bang on every time.

Just read under another thread that if you stop mid journey, SatNav does not remember and you have to re enter destination. Surely not BMW?

Can anyone confirm/deny?

It asks if you want to continue, it doesn't lose the destination.

I have used latitude/longitude to load a destination via Connected and it worked just fine and dandy.

Whether you can do it in the car I don't know.

What you can do is tap on the desired location on the map display and use that as a destination.

But it’s not like my old 5 series. On the G20 the message appears briefly for only a couple of seconds as a narrow banner top of the screen. Very easy to miss it before it disappears

It's an absolute pain. It basically abandons your route.

When you restart tou get about a 5 second window to resume guidance. If you miss that, you basically have to go into the options to resume the previous destination. So, so unnecessary

Bring down notifications on the idrive screen and the route will be there offering for you to continue, if you miss the short notification onscreen.

Happened to notice yesterday that yes, you can programme the satnav in car using coordinates.
