It's called marketing folks. Most people want the latest and greatest and everyone will know that you have the newest car based on the grill, which is what a lot of people want, especially "BMW People".

BMW knows that you'll still buy them regardless if you think the legacy is defined by a radiator grill. And you will look at your kidney shaped grills and think about how dated your car is and this will prompt you to flock to the dealer to pick up your new BMW with the "ugly" grill.

We are a vein species and if you think not, then I challenge you to completely de-badge your bimmer.

Get the M240/M2 while you can before they butcher the front end and likely remove the manual (at least from non-M models) and increase the weight. Difference is everywhere,unless you have severely bad vision.
Grill shape, grill pattern, headlights shape, headlights pattern, bumper design, mirrors... Everything is completely different.
