So if you can't make up your mind between getting an Audi or a Lexus, now you can have both with a BMW 4 series. Nice

A good decision for you! I like the new design and the old one is so outdated for me ...

You are kidding I hope....

Mono grille design is not the same thing. Mercedes, Aston and Audi have different ways to play with their grille and they all managed to do it better, or at least they managed to avoid to be mentioned in the worst design books. Some of their models look beautiful.
Audi has a big grill, but blends well with the rest of the car and the whole design has a similar aproach with a well balanced geometry.
BMW is just a mess, the body is one thing, the tailights and headlamps another and the grill looks like was borrowed or made from mosquito screens from Rona. Put in top the horrendous horizontal hood line and that car looks literally like a terrible sketch. And btw, show me where I said something about big. I did not say anything about it. But, I wouldn’t deny the fact that big does not work for BMW. Multiple models that are already on the market are the joke of the media...

BMW managed to be a top runner for “Golden Raspberry Awards” in design.

This 100% BMW's dual frame grill design doesn't lend itself well to things like increased size or placement of the acc radar as well as single frame design grills. For example, an A5 may have a larger grill, but because BMW has two frames, it visually doesn't look as good and can look busier/less cohesive. Its hard to explain but the dual frame nature leads to different design impressions.

I feel like BMW could have just made their grills wider rather than taller and things would have worked better.

Freekin ugly..... Looks like a combination of an Audi and Lexus. The latest BMW's with the over-sized grills is not doing for me anymore

Ah, remember the days when BMW marketed itself as the company that had consistency and reliability? Where you didnt have to worry about the previous model being "outdated" by the new one?

Good times..

I'm not sure if someone already did this, but I added a Euro plate (Belgian, specifically) to the front.

A license plate in the middle of BMW's iconic kidneys... how far did we come?

BTW don't forget the ugly hood line...

The more times I look at it, the more I start to accept it

Disclaimer, accept doesn’t mean I like it, I’ve just accepted it. It will always be the weakest part of the whole car, but it no longer makes me sick.

The frame around it for me tips the scales against it. I actually think I could live with it if frameless.

I said it once and I'll say it again but this is the first time in my life where I find myself wanting to put a front plate on a car... imo, the front end looks so much better with a plate...

I don't know. Having it frameless doesn't really make it better nor worse, but having it with the frame makes it more BMW than without because we're so used to seeing kidney grilles with a Chrome surround.

Doesn't really change my view on it, it's still going to be in consideration with or without it.

Looks awesome, the 4 continues to be the first exciting design in a long time from BMW. The i8 was the last but it is let down by a tame and soft front end...the new 4 is not.

Admittedly I jumped past ~10 pages but I haven't seen any complaints about the hood not extending all the way to the nose. I guess the grills are the lightning rod.

I have a feeling the new 4er will be like the new 3er in that the only ones I'll see on the road will have a "Courtesy Vehicle" sticker on it.

The new 3er styling is disappoinying enough with the dumb Lexus IS tails, removal of traditional BMW side character line and removal of Hoffmeister kink.

BUT this FUGLY GRILL is an absolute travesty! Nobody ever complained about the grill so why ruin something thats not broken. Focus on the damn INTERIOR materials / design / quality which is the major Item that needs attention.

Actually, if you remove the BMW badge and model number, with those lights and exhaust pipes, I would be confused between Infinity, Sonata and others.

If you look at e36 --> e46 --> e90 --> F30, that was evolution.

I see this as a different direction same as the front that went from kidney grilles to lungs

Sadly I read through all 19 pages. There were several comments about the hood line. But the grille is definitely the lightning rod though

My guess is the hood line was rendered necessary by the sculpted double bubble nose design requirement, as it couldn't technically be pressed out of sheet metal through the regular industrial process, but who knows.
