Front Grille Again

Would this genuine G20 M340i grille be a direct swap for my G20 330i?

I don’t see why not.... as long as you get the right one if you have parking assistant plus.

See this thread especially posts by Conezz

Yup! As said by Tam all you need to make sure you have the PA+ hole in the grille if you have that on your car. No cam hole needed if you don't.

Thanks both. What are your thoughts on doing this? The grille has always been the thing I dislike the most on the new 3 series.

It’s a personal choice.... If you like it and can afford it then why not.

For myself I would spend my money on the front splitter.

I would question whether it's a good idea to change the grill other than for aesthetic/personal taste reasons- BMW will have invested a lot of resource into developing the 'active' grill used on the 330i so presumably it is the right thing for that engine. It could be that it isn't on the 340 as the active grill isn't suitable p/ideal for that engine. So the same logic might apply in reverse.

Then again, maybe not!!

Afaik the active grille will still work in the same manner as the 340i has one.

Again as Tam has said it's entirely your choice. If you have a 'chrome' grille I would just swap that out for the same kind in but in black.

Edit I see you have a black one already! My first point stands.

If you prefer it do it. I'd say 95% of us that had/have f series models on here swapped the grilles to black ones.
The grille is definitely a low point of the g series but I'm used to it now and assuming I do order an m340 I'm leaving the celerium grille on as I think it looks better than the black ones on mineral grey. The issue for me is the really thick surround of them which really stand out with the black ones.

I’d be interested in buying your original black grill to replace my chrome one.

Thinking about this overnight (I really need to get out more) the reason I questioned using the 340 grill in a 330 is that the one shown in the picture in the original post does not appear to have 'active' grills in it. The 330 grill including the active bits all appears to be one self contained unit.

I may be wrong on both counts, just trying to avoid someone possibly making an expensive mistake.

Useful video here

I am going for the black honeycomb style shown here.

Just re opening this thread...

Did anyone do this swap? After doing some research it appears the active grill on the msport has 'ribbed' areas where as the 340i variant are flat active grills. Attached photos should illustrate.

Would this be an issue for fitting?
