I see one way out of this for BMW.

G80 M3 - AWD
G82 M4- AWD
G87 M2- RWD - aka " pure"
G85 M2- SEDAN/GRAN COUPE - RWD - aka "Pure"

See above... And I agree... I don't mind if the successor has a 2 series badge - A sedan is still needed.

Excited for this car to come!

I'm getting ready to purchase a M car soon. Just don't know if I want a low mile clean e92, a used F80, new/used F82 or lease new m3!

This is going to be a giant mistake for BMW if they do this.

I am already leaning into Porsche as well for my future car, this isn't helping.

I hope you're right.

The M2 is what might keep me BMW.

Yep, saying I'm going Porsche is half in jest. But if BMW keeps this up, I might be more and more serious.

BMW should maybe hire Akrapovic to make them a compact exhaust that doesn't hang so low.

Not a good trend.

No manual M3 No Bueno.
No DCT already confirmed.
If no 6MT then the M3 dies with the F80

I guess that's the case everywhere except the USA and maybe Canada. Here in Switzerland almost nobody cares about manuals anymore, that's why I'm always so surprised how many people are complaining here because of the possible end of the manuals. As much as I remember there was a statistic on Bimmerpost of all sold F80 and F82 around the world and the big majority of the manuals were sold in NA, in the rest of the world only a pretty low percentage.

Nice.
Lol plus Porsche doesn't offer a small sedan with useable back seats. Porsche has nothing to directly compete with an M3 so why people saying they going with Porsche is beyond me.

Automatic awd... what's honestly the point in getting an M3 over an M340? M3 is dead with no MT and RWD option. My current bmw will probably be my last in terms of a fun car to drive. Honestly how mind numbingly dull is an automatic awd car

If I'm being honest, the E90 had little appeal, the F80 even less and the G80 was already slated to be larger than both and heavier than the F80, if not the F87 and E90. So with a manual, probably 5% interest. Without one, 0%. No big change.

MF: Manual is very important. The manual stick shift is not a performance-bringer, because an automatic transmission is just faster, you can ask any race driver.
But it gives the vehicle character and I kind of compare it to people who love mechanical watches; it isn't more precise and it doesn't have any advantage at all but it's a character feature. So is a stick shift

Wow thats a pretty flat out confirmation if in fact true. I also like the way he phrases that awd "...is an option", just lets u into his thinking a lil bit about priorities. If he'd said rwd is an option that would kinda tell me the priority of how they engineered this car. At the least it confirms they havent gone totally off the rails here just yet.

And a bit of hope for the G80 returns ... for the moment

It's like some of you people don't read any other posts after a certain point.

I'm no Porsche fan. There's a reason I own an M3 and not a Porsche. All reasons I have previously posted in this thread. Go take some time and read them.

Unfortunately, BMW seems hell bent on removing the reasons I bought an M3 in the first place. If I wanted a fast highway cruiser with 4 doors and a slushbox, I could get a M550.

At some point though, the advantages of the M3 will be overshadowed by all the attributes it no longer possess. When that happens, something like a Cayman all of a sudden becomes worthwhile.

If you think Porsche and BMW M are not cross shopped, well you haven't looked at many threads in the comparison subforum.

Yes, nothing better then rev match your self.

When I take it to a track, it's more about engagement and fun.

I try to beat mine own best time but also try to have fun and huge smile!
