G20 to be built in MEXICO April2020
Hey Guys,
i was just at the dealer today to discuss some things regarding G20 and it came to my attention that from April production the car will be built in mexico, and not Germany.. this i find really concerning. can anyone else confirm this? |

They are. And if my car is anything to go by, then theyre doing an excellent job. Absolutely flawless in the 3000 miles Ive had it for.

I know the OP as well as a lot of others have a very different mindset compared to me. I was just trying to say that it doesnt have to be a matter of concern is all.

its good to hear that you guys are already driving your mexican built cars and confirm the quality build is good, of course i would prefer a German built car, i was especially looking forward to having my very first german built car.. as i have the G01 and the build quality i would say was 98% there was a few minor things missed at factory but i had them sorted here in Australia by BMW.
it was either a Merc C300 or a BMW 330i for me and both are built in Germany, until i heard the news today from my dealer, but in any case it wont stop me from buying a G20, just a bit disheartening. |

It comes up all the time but it's been proven through stats like warranty repairs etc that the German made cars tend to have more issues than those made in South Africa, USA or (presumably) Mexico.
The Australian market sourced the E46 from South Africa midway through the production run after originally sourcing from Germany and the warranty issue rate actually went down noticeably once they made the switch. All I'm saying is, trust the BMW process will be consistent no matter where the car is made and trust that the good people at the Mexican factory will be proudly building your car . |

Old mate Trump was on the bandwagon about this as he still thinks the manufacturers are screwing him by not making the cars in the USA. |

my dealer tried to sell me one yesterday "put your order in if you want german made"
ill just wait until there is support for the 3 series so that a good deal can be had, and im sure now going to Mexico there will be better discounting later in the year. |

No, all production is moving to Mexico. At least it will improve delivery leadtimes from 3-3.5 months to 2 months...

My car was made in Mexico and the fit and finish is the most perfect of any car I've owned, including multiple Lexus vehicles that were assembly at the famous Tahara plant in Japan (which is Toyota's crown jewel facility known for quality). The only flaws I've found with the vehicle are due to engineering/design choices (made in Germany) that would have nothing to do with the plant where it was assembled. |

FWIW, my previous, admittedly early build F30 had many minor quality issues: ill fitting window rubbers, dropping rear vision mirror, cracking short cut buttons. My F30 was made in South Africa. Fortunately, all problems were rectified under warranty.
Certainly had more problems with the F30 compared with my previous Mazda6. My current 3 month old (German built) G20 has been perfect (touch wood!). Perhaps, there is some truth in not buying any early build of a new series until they have rectified any quality problems. Perhaps, this is the more relevant issue rather than the country of manufacture. |
