M340i clunk noise (rear right) on bumps
Hi, my M340i recently started to make clunk noises from rear back side of the car on lower speed bumps, when the road is uneven. Left side is ok. It sounds like it´s coming from suspension, car has only 12k km.
Did anyone have this kind of sound ? And no, it´s not a seatbelt and also checked everything in trunk. Is it possible that any bolt around the shock absorber or suspension can be loose?

My '20 M340i does this as well. The 2021 330 I traded in also did it. Im wondering if its just some sort of NVH transmission from the hard run flats tires or something similar.

Yes, right rear, but thats not saying the left rear is not doing it either, I just can't tell because of my positioning. I've also tried to convince myself that its the trunk floor banging over larger bumps, since it did it on both cars.

Yep, I´ll probably leave like it is and will mention it to the dealer at the first oil service.

This is a known/common issue. My car does it. Many expecting a recall soon if you search around. In the meantime, I'm just ignoring. Not worth the headache of even mentioning it and getting the "could not replicate customer concern" hassle.

I´ve seen threads about noises mainly coming from front suspension. Hope BMW will figure this out with that rear noise. I´ve tried if the cover of battery in the boot not causing the issue but no, if I press there is a slightly clunky noise but after putting there soft cloth the sound on uneven road is still there. It must be something else.

Tyres?
My M340i also makes these noises. My car is 43000km and on the first set of tyres (Pirelli P Zero). I was considering changing to Goodyear Eagle F1. In my country, run flat tyres are a safety feature due to the risk of highjacking etc. so I don't have the option of non-run flat.

I’ve noticed noises coming from the shocks (almost rattle snake noises) over bumps which is normal but annoying with the windows down. I’m lowered on Dinan springs which have had “squishy” noises and that could be about anything relating to transmission. I’ve just learned to try to avoid this since the car still performs perfectly fine

Does everyone who is experiencing this issue have adaptive suspension? Reason I ask is that i have a G22 4 series with the same rear suspension 'Thump' when going over rough ground. Looking on the G42 forum, it seems like a very common problem to cars with Adaptive suspension. On that forum, there is a post from someone who had their shocks replaced with a new set by BMW which had a revised part number. When looking under my G22, it appears the rear shocks have the same part number as the ones causing the trouble on the G42. Im guessing the G20 adaptive probably uses the same ones then??

hear it “ thump “ on the rear ride side. I believe it’s only when I’m in eco mode as well I don’t think I remember hearing it while in comfort, I’m running non flat tires as well. Wonder what it could be |
