Check Engine - Lower Active Grille

Hi everyone,

My car ended up getting a code for a 138224 - Active Cooling Air Flap Control (AKKS), below: lower stop not recognized. I checked the lower grille shutter in the bottom of the bumper and it appears to be stuck open. What's ironic is I ended up flashing to stage 1 BM3 since my warranty was expiring in a few months and figured that I wouldn't have any other issues. I looked up the part online and it's relatively cheap (51-74-5-A22-C65) and I could replace it myself easily.

I still have some CPO warranty left (3 months). Should I flash to stock and take it in to the dealer or should I just replace it myself and avoid the hassle of my car coming up as tuned?

Sidenote: I'm thinking maybe some debris got into the shutters. When I parked the car I heard a loud crack coming from the car a few times, so maybe something got stuck and broke.

Thanks in advance.

I just had to fix my lower radiator blind after a piece of tire cracked the grille and dislodged one of the flaps. The bumper isn't too hard to take off. The center grille sucks, but once you get it out getting to the lower flaps is easy. like 4 screws and it slides out. Then I used ISTA to run the diag and it cleared everything up.

Flashing to stock won't make a difference since ISTA will still pick it up. If you can confirm physical damage to the shutter, they will not warranty it anyway. Probably better off doing it yourself.

Thanks everyone for your input. I ended up ordering the part and will be replacing it myself.

I watched a video on how to remove a G20 bumper on YouTube first. Then I watched a video on YouTube on how to remove the lower active grille on a G30 5 series. The removal process is almost identical. Will post links below
