In terms of changes, I’d have thought certainly here in the U.K. that most changes would be speed limits where there have been a lot of changes ie some to 20mph.

Just checked mine too and it's now offering 2023-4 as well.

Just set it away downloading and get on with something else for an hour and a half again!

May as well have it when it's included in my first 3 years connected drive subscription although not sure if I'll bother renewing after 3 years especially if map updates become less frequent and as Charlie Wessex says how much do roads change realistically?

Worked for me with the old download manager, just very slow even with a 1Gbps connection.

I think you're right about that, it's just a pity the map and the previous two updates can't get several roads around my home to show the correct speed limit for the posted one. Especially 30's which it insists on showing as 20's...bloody thing! But I don't want to get in to that debate again there are extensive posts on threads on here about that very subject in particular already!

Yeh I could rant in that for quite a while but won’t!

Despite this I still update the maps on my car whilst it’s free for the first 3 years and pay for it afterwards along with RTTI whic I see as the 2 best and genuinely useful features. Speed camera alerts for £25 also get my vote.

You can report road problems at https://mapfeedback.here.com/#/report go to the "Road info is wrong" option and you then pick the road on the map and then get a screen that lets you update the speed limit etc.

My Maps auto-updated

My maps auto-updated yesterday, and the new version is:

Road Map EUROPE Joy 2022-4 101072226.3.00,Q21_23w30.4-1
Region update: 2023-3

Shortly after the update I approached a T-junction with the A66 near Keswick and the junction did not show on my map at all !!

I have to say that the navigation under the new idrive 8 system is definitely inferior to the previous version on my last car (M340i pre LCI). Sometimes the proposed routes are frankly ridiculous and illogical !

That's interesting.....so does this website check and update the map information BMW use for their sat navs?

HERE maps are owned by BMW, VW, Mercedes (and others) and so they all use HERE map data in their cars. BMW's maps page at https://www.bmw.co.uk/en/topics/owne.../bmw-maps.html says "The data basis for this is the HERE map, enriched with the collected knowledge of the swarm intelligence of the entire networked BMW Group fleet of over 14 million vehicles worldwide."

I'd like to download the new map update to my PC and transfer it to USB stick, but I'm still getting this when I try to install the download manager.

Cannot open app package, "Reason:- Error in parsing the app package."

Anybody know where I'd report that?

In my experience of BMW satnavs over the last 15 years or so, ridiculous and illogical routes are the norm. Thankfully I can now use google maps, so never look at the BMW nav at all. Unless I forget my phone like I did a week or so ago, and was promptly directed down a single track road.

This is what happens if you try to use it in the Lake District ...

But was there a sensible alternative route? In some parts of the country (I’m thinking in particular of the West Country) there’s no alternative but to use routes like that. Unless you want to make a 50 mile detour.

Is this the Microsoft application you're after Tok'Ra?
Whilst I use the Mac application and don't have any problem downloading the maps I did a quick Google search under the heading of "what does 'Error in parsing the app package' mean" and it threw up a list of possible causes and solutions to try to overcome the problem, maybe worth a try if you're still experiencing issues with this?

The 2023-4 map downloaded ok and then uploaded to the nav in the iDrive fine, according to the system, but haven't tried it yet as the cars are tucked away in the garage until the forecast perilous weather has moved through the North East!

Thanks bmnut, I figured it out. I should have known TBH, I use a rather unusual Firewall and sometimes it just blocks things w/o notifying me that it's blocked it. Sorted now. I just need to find a 64Gb or larger drive to put the files on now.

A 64GB drive should work absolutely fine, it does on mine the map file size is only about 36GB. The one thing I always do is to completely erase the drive first in 'Disk Utility' on my iMac and it's never been a problem.
I'm guessing you're Microsoft but I feel sure you can 'clean' the drive on that system too?

Think mine is formatted as FAT32 but both work fine. I've got to be careful and watch this stuff closely because Apple always wants to use their encrypted APFS system or some such sh*t I honestly don't really understand which is why this forum is invaluable to me!

Mine downloaded at 5.5GB/s so I went and did the supermarket shopping whilst she was oot horse riding ....too bloody soft me! Still had 20 mins to go when I got back!!

LOL BMW recommend using exFAT if you can in their "how too" video that's on YouTube, otherwise I'd have just used FAT32 as well. Probably makes no difference, but my DL speed has been between 6.5 to 7.2 MB/s and that will take 75 mins to download. EDIT:- Damn it!, and Double Damn it!! I've just realised it's DL'ing 2023-3 It was showing 2023-4 this moring. Doh!!

I could only dream of download speeds like that, mine’s outrun by the bloody snails around the wife’s hosta plants in the back garden!
