My 6MT f80 with snow tires was fantastic in the snow so I could care less about AWD.

Yep, I watched 4runners go into the center barrier and trailers unable to make it over the pass with chains on but my M3 with Michelin Alpins did fantastic.

Thru in most cases, I personally have a house on hill and very step driveway.

I am sure it will be useful for some, personally I don't drive M3 in winter. I have X5 and will get soon new X6M

M3 will be for track only

I'm less concerned with AWD for all weather purposes but more so the potential for a 700+ HP AWD platform after tuning and mods!

The biggest pitfalls of RWD high HP vehicles is needing drag tires to put the power down. Anyone who has raced a GTR will understand.

I've been driving RWD BMW's for years here in Scandinavia in snow without a single issue.

You can barely see! Hell , I got scared watching the video!!

But yes putting snow tires on is definitely a blast plus the confidence in stopping and steering is great. My 550i with snows out handled my wifes 535xi hands down. First time on snow tires so go fig.

Explaining that RWD cars with winter tires are perfectly solid options for winter driving and indeed superior to the all season tires most AWD cars/trucks have is like trying to explain quantum physics to a toddler.

No matter how many times TireRack and car mags clearly prove what is evident people still don't believe it.

Because people are not educated. Lol

Huge difference in winter tires, every single car I owned I had winter tires.... even on AWD cars.

I live in Michigan, and RWD 6MT + snow tires has been my (and my wife's) only set up for years. We only got our S4 last year because it was a better car than the outgoing F30 and the G20 wasn't out yet.

The S4 with snow tires IS better than any of my RWD cars with the same tires, but the BMW's always got us where we wanted to go without drama and are perfectly fine outside of the mountains.

I usually don't chime in matters of taste, BUT–Don't do it! The X6 is BMW's Honda Crosstour. Dumpy and lumpy and confused. Can't decide if it's a car or a crossover. Go X5M instead!

I dont get either what's the fuss about AWD on a M car, ALL M cars should be made with RWD only, current M5 already broke that tradition. I get it's a very advance system and let you do all kinds of crazy things with 600 hp. But dont you want a M car because it's the characteristics of a RWD car which we like about. Go get RS4/5/7 or an STI if thats what you're into. Stop with the 4WD M car bs please, theres always the 340i Xdrive

Same here. Had E70 X5M, now F86 X6M. I like the X6M more.

100% agree, it's not only about the drive train, you need AWD only for getting started or if you are in a place where 3 of 4 tires don't have traction, otherwise winter tires are perfectly ok to drive 99% of the time and you need winter tires for steering and stopping. Having AWD will not help you to stop on snow or ice.

Great news I can upgrade at some point!

+1 Zero traction issues at all in snow and cold weather with the right tires and common sense.

I also don't have traction issues in summer either..

Let's not forget the M3 posts faster
Lap times than C63, Alpha and CTS-V

I'm intentionally not including Tesla because it's not a car I would consider.

No traction issues in winter it's impossible!!!

You don't have traction issue in summer? You must be driving like a nanny you don't drive it hard enough.

You step on it and it will have traction issues. Specifically with MT.
